Pics needed of the rear ebrake cables at trailing arm.

I sold my 65 trailing arms and now useing 72 trailing arms. If you have any pics of the 65 trailing arms where the ebrake cable goes please post them. I need the pics for comparison before I call the truck shop. It makes a difference when ordering. I ordered 63-65, but they also list 66-72 as another PN. I also have to figure out which front and middle cable to use as well.

I had to make a bracket for my new e-brake fittings but the location is the same hole as OE. The second pic is of the original e-brake fitting. The third pic shows the location.

Just a thought,

If the length is too long you can shorten them without swadging using some stainless cable ends from Harbour Freight like this. Rating is 900 lbs.

That's a great idea. I ordered 72 rear cables today, gonna send the others back. I might have to shorten the middle cable not sure yet. If I have to I might used what you showed me. Still curious how and where the factory 65 ebrake cable attached to the trailing arm.

Alan, I have the original stuff out from under my truck sitting next to my shop. I will snap some pics for you tomorrow when I get home from work. Here is the best one I can find in my photobucket account now which shows really nothing pertinent.



I will get you some closeups and measurements. By the way, I am running a 72 model rearend and cables in my junk and wound up making new brackets similar to TR65.

Hey Alan,

Until Tx gets the pics. The mounting hole in the trailing arm is 35-5/8" from the centerline of the forward pivot bolt of the trailing arm. The e-brake cable just clamps to that hole, same one my bracket is bolted to. That is the only connection to the trailing arm.

Maybe I just don't understand the question.

I ordered rear ebrake cables that said fit 63-65 SWB w/coils. I don't remember them being this long. Then I remembered I actually used the 72 trailing arms. I thought I remembered the 65 locking into the trailing arms with horseshoe spring clips. I didn't take good pics during teardown. That was before I found this forum. Here is a pic of the new 63-65 brake cable compared to the 72 (I think). It's the only one I have so I'm 99% sure it is the old 72 cable. I don't have my old rearend or trailing arms. I sold them. The 3rd cable on the far right is the front cable out of the truck.



This is the bracket I'm referring to that it locks in. The new cable doesn't have that provision. I don't have a pic of mine this is a co-workers truck.

Looks like your new 65 cable doesn't have the clamp and boot that go on the end (like in my picture of the original cable). Seems like that should be included.

My later model cables use a c-clip on the end. That's why I had to make brackets for them.

So hopefully the 72 cables will snap right in.
