Look what I found
I was looking on craigslist the other day, and stumbled on this truck. It's been sitting since 2003, and after a good tune up, and new master cylinder, and some misc parts, I had hew runnin like a dream. It's got a straight six, with a 3 on the tree. It's pretty stock, and not all hacked up, and I plan to drive her for awhile before any restorations begin. The only thing I can't figure out is why it has 66 emblems on it..? anyways I was able to get it for $1,800, and after throwing another $200 for parts here she is...

Re: Look what I found
I need to get out there... hopefully after I get my 72 finished I can start on the 65..? The suburban is taking a toll on my wallet, and I might need a rest before starting on the truck. I'm looking forward to coming out to some of the local events... maybe we'll see ya there..?

Re: Look what I found
It may have '66 emblems on it, because it appears to be a '66. Nice score and thanks for sharing.

Re: Look what I found
The reverse lights generally indicate a '66 model if I'm not mistaken

Re: Look what I found
thats what I thought too about the back up lights..? When I first saw it I said it was a 66, and he said it was a 65, and also on the title it said it was a 65 model. I'm wondering if it was built late year, and has the 66 emblems..?

Re: Look what I found
It probably got a 65 cab somewhere in it's life. Hence the 65 Title.

Re: Look what I found
The VIN and the last eight alpha-numeric digits on the driver side frame rail, adjacent to the alternator, will tell the year. Post it and the year will be determined.

Re: Look what I found
Quote:
1. The temp gauge (if it has one) the 1966 model year had 2 thin green arches as oposed to the '64-65 year models that had a single thick green flat line. 2. The dash in a '66 is painted a dark or 'saddle' fawn color which varied from the '64 & '65 models where the dash was the same color as the rest of the interior. 3. The steering wheel is thinner and the steering column comes to more of a taper at the horn than the '65. In the 'custom comfort cab' models, the chrome horn ring is very different than in any of the previous years with that option. They only made it like that for one year - '60 -65 are all the same. Seatbelts and back up lights were manditory in '66, but they were always an option in the earlier years so you really can't tell from the presence of those features. It's actually pretty common for the DMV records to be a year off - especially in vintage trucks for some reason. I don't exactly know why.

Re: Look what I found
VIN tags came before titles, so the VIN determines the year. It may have been manufactured and then sit on the lot at the plant, until it went to the dealership and was issued a title. The VIN is the primary determining factor, followed by the title and hopefully both match. You will also find the last 8 alpha-numeric digits of the VIN on the frame rail adjacent to the alternator on the top of the frame rail on the driver side. You can appeal to the DMV to change the information on the title, to reflect the correct information, if you choose.
