Automatic Column in a Floor Shift Truck

Gentlemen-
I just picked up a automatic column to install in my floor shift truck. The plan is to restore the column and the awesome deluxe wheel. I understand there will be a bracket thats on the frame I will need. I also need to refinish the wheel. My truck is red with a white top and the interior will be the same colors. I am looking to paint the column and wheel white as well and ditch the modern wheel and "car" shifter it currently has. Here are my questions and your answers are appreciated.

1. Any idea what it will take and the best route to go for that frame bracket?
2. I only got 1 linkage with the coulmn (shown in pic). How many more do I need and what do they look like?
3. Best way to refurbish the wheel without spending $400?

What bracket are you talkin' about? The brackets are usually riveted to the frame under the truck adjacent to the trans. You will need the horizontal linkage that rotates the trans 'U' .

Mine dropped straight off the column and down under the floor board to the next piece. I just ripped off this stuff if you need or want to see it. PM me if so.

Re: Automatic Column in a Floor Shift Truck

I converted my 3-on-the-tree column to an auto column with the help of an NOS tube with the correct auto linkage at the bottom. There was no additional bracket necessary that I can recall. Also, if you can't get your linkage to match up properly, you can use a Lokar cable link kit . It works very nicely.

Here's the part that goes across from the frame to the tranny.

Re: Automatic Column in a Floor Shift Truck

You could go with the Lokar or Kugel system and not mess with the bracket on the frame.

I believe I could make that work. The end that mounts to the column is the only diffence between your truck and mine. If I was to cut that end off, I could slide it in my old column.. I will be talking to you real soon.

It was also good to talk to you.

Re: Automatic Column in a Floor Shift Truck

I can say that refurbishing this steering wheel is not going to be as easy as I thought. Its been painted twice since the factory and chip deep enough that it will need to be fully scuffed. Not sure what I can use to get this paint off without damaging the actual wheel...........................
