rear end gear ratio

I have an 86 chevy 1/2 ton 2wd with a 305, 350c trans and a 10 bolt rear end. I know somebody here knows what ratio this setup came with.

Check the tag on the inside of the glove box door. It should be listed there.

There are lots of 10bolts with 2.73 / 3.07s. If you had a factory 6 cylinder or towing package you will more likely have better gears. Numerically higher like a 3.23 / 3.42 / 3.73.

Best way to find out is to pull the cover and count the ring and pinion. Im sure the differential could use an oil change anyway. You will get a chance to see the gears and how the ware looks on them. You will need 2.5 quarts of gear oil, a cover gasket, and a 3/8s drive ratchet to remove the fill plug on the passenger side by the driveshaft. I think the bolts are 1/2 or 9/16. Its really easy.

The RPO list should be in the glove compartment or in one of the fender wells (inner fender) sides.
