is this a good replace for my read axle ?
Hi, I found a chevrolet truck, it's for sale, I want to know if I can use the rear axle because my GMC Jimmy 73 rear axle is not the original, but, since the GMC is 4WD I want to know if the chevy truck is compatible...
hrere is the photos of the truck... (all I know is this si a 69 truck, 2WD, L6 250 engine, suspension front coils rear leaf)

Is the gear ratio the same whats with the bed is it on the stock frame

Grab you a tapemeasure and climb under it and take some measurements. i.e. spring perch center to spring perch center, shock mount center to shock mount center, and backing plate to backing plate. That will let you know if it will actually bolt in without modification.
Then you need to confirm the gear ratio in the Chevy rearend and the gear ratio in your GMC, because the GMC is 4WD, you have to stay with the same ratio that is in it now so it will match up with the front gear ratio. If they don't match it would destroy the transfer case having mismatched gear ratios. I would really be suprised if they will match up, but maybe you will get lucky . What is wrong with the rearend under the GMC now, other than not being the original one? |
