Sherwood Racing ( owego ny 607-687-2991) will cut and add backspacing for about $50 a wheel.....told you I'm on a really low budget ..But you still get a gold star for making it work.... do you have 18x 29 or 31?? with the 31's I rub the inner bed sitting on the frame..with the 29'' alls good but like you I'm looking for another cheap set... funny our build pics and what we are doing is almost Idenical except I'm going with the caddy to bad we don't live closer it would be great to see them side by side.....with a Xmas tree between them!!!

Re: Pro Street Trucks/Cars pics!!! im in love with the fatty tires!!
They are 29 x 18.5's
Just one other though. First of all, the back wheels were about $150 each which seems cheap to me for custom built. The problem with adding to the backspace is that you have to go with what ever the front spacing is.....you can't change it. That was critical for me getting everything to fit right. It also seems kinda tricky to get a wheel perfectly straight and true doing it that way. Then again.....I can't believe what they can do now a days. Mines would have rubbed too if I didn't shorten the front spacing away from the fender wells. I also know that "budget" can be a huge determining factor......that's why my truck looks like it does!!! LOL I'll just leave you with this and this is not to anything specific. Never sacrifice safety for looks! I can't believe the death traps that are on the road. Nice truck though! |

Re: Pro Street Trucks/Cars pics!!! im in love with the fatty tires!!
I agree...those guys do tons of race car wheels..I don't know them personaly...but they will do what ever you want to a wheel and there prices seem really fair compaired to new ones I ought all 4 rallies for $50 so I figure I have about half the $$ of a new one whick works well with any budget..I'm sure they could move the center to make up any off set I wanted but I have no idea what it would cost..I'm sure your getting closer to a new one...My big thing was to keep the stock 6 lug rally LOOK and these wheels ( with 16 holes) arn't available in other widths ( that I could find or afford)
As far as safety its always #1..I have done alot of dumb stuff but I always try to build in safety first...I don't bounce like I use to?? or heal?? I think you and I are on the same page on sooo many things.......... Jeff sorry for the highjack |

How tall are your current tires? How much lower could you go in the back and still have good clearance?

Re: Pro Street Trucks/Cars pics!!! im in love with the fatty tires!!
Rob,
They are 29's. I have a little more room acutally. There is also so room for fab work on that little piece of metal that goes from the outer fender lip (it's tack welded from the factory) to what the fender actually bolts on to. The reason I'm not lower it because of the suspension itself. I don't like the pinion angle and I even have angled shims. Once I get a few things done on the 67 Fastback, I'm going to cut off all the brackets on the 12 bolt and four link it. Then I can really get down and have good driveline alignment at the same time. One thing always leads to another though. When the drive train alignment changes, so will the header angles which means I will have to have my nice exhaust redone....at least a little. At the same time I will go to spindles and disc brakes up front. This way I can get a good portion of my drop out of the spindles. As you can see, it's a can of worms so I am holding off and just driving the darn thing for now!!! |

Re: Pro Street Trucks/Cars pics!!! im in love with the fatty tires!!
Mike Nutt told me if you drop the rear much you need to flip the trailing arm brackets in the front and that helps some. I'm assuming you still have trailing arms I didn't look.

Re: Pro Street Trucks/Cars pics!!! im in love with the fatty tires!!
You are right. That's why I'm not getting under there again until the bed is off and I'm linking it. Unlike leaf springs, the rear end doesn't go up into the chassis in a straight line with these trailing arms. I have seen so many dumped trucks with the most jacked up geometry under there. If I would have caught it before I had my custom exhaust done I would have fab'd a trans crossmember to get me just a few degrees more and the back end. The cool thing is that I should have just enough drive line yoke left for the change down the road.

With you? Hmmmm....there has been some metal leaving that truck somewhere. That's pretty light! Is there a ton of glass panels on it??

Race Weight, glass nose, glass doors, fatman mustang II frontend, Bed Skin only. Tom had the truck down to 3275 with him in it with only a glass hood when it was a blue stepside.

Re: Pro Street Trucks/Cars pics!!! im in love with the fatty tires!!
you guys bring up some valid points ..when you switch to cup car arms you can shim them also (there 2 piece) they also have a P bar mount on the DS TA you guys have seen it in my pics ( but 12" wheel is all you can have) I madwe my new P bar 42" long and mounts on the outside of my frame on te PS..my side travel is very small and tucks the wheels dead center on the frame......as far as the inner bed you could make a cut just under the bolt holes for the wheel tub and push it in and make a small filler panel..this would cure my issues even with the 31's
is anyone still running a 2 piece DS??? I plan to swap to 1 piece when I add the caddy trans ( 13" tailshaft) that will eat up some of the pinion angle too and PS10 when io get home from Fla I plan to open that exact can of worms...motor,exhaust,ds angle, Drop spindles with disc...I hope it will be my last can of worms..they're getting expncive??? Jeff

Re: Pro Street Trucks/Cars pics!!! im in love with the fatty tires!!
Oh.....it's more than fun! I could NEVER see this particular truck with an auto. I am a downshift freak. I love pulling up to the cruise and going 4th......3rd....2nd.....and so on. It's also fun because 4 speed rigs "bump" through the parking lot just a little different than an auto car, especially if you have a little stall.
Main reason I bucked-up for the M-22 is so I could cross out the 42 yrs old on my driver's license and pencil in 19, not worrying about breaking anything. I just love banging 2nd and getter 'er all sideways when I have a passenger. Greatest thing about being the driver is that only you know what all hell is about to "break loose". Thanks for the thumbs up!! |
