Tire Fun
Ok. This will be long, but I need to vent!
Saturday: I noticed my pass. side back tire was going flat. Put air in it & it held for a while. I noticed it had 3 nails in the same hole. I would take it down to the tire place to get it fixed for free on Monday. Monday: I was coming home from errands and heard PSSS PSSS PSSS. I pulled over immediately and looked at my driver side front tire. It was bulging in a spot and in that spot the bead came off letting air out. The tire is toast - the bead is gnawed up and gone. It stranded me for a while until I get my spare on. I don't trust this spare to go on the freeway. I'm pissed off and have 2 bum tires. Tuesday: I decide until I can order a new tire, I'll put on the old stock tires & rims from our '99 Tahoe on. I'm REALLY glad we kept them. I tried to deal with the guy at the tire shop, but one of the guys that deals with stuff has no personality and has no people skills. I get nail on the Tahoe tires repair and my one tire with nails in it. They don’t have the correct lug nuts to put on the new style rims on the old style trucks. They guy tells me to come back and talk with Tom tomorrow (owner) about the blown tire. Wednesday: I get there and Tom has the day off. The guy tells me they found the correct lug nuts and they put on the ugly-ass stock Tahoe rims& tires. They put them on so I can actually go out of town. IT IS REALLY UGLY! It will have to do until I can order the new tire – it also gives me an excuse to polish up the rims and make them nice & pretty while they are off the truck. Thursday: I go back and talk to Tom. The says he’ll get to ordering a new tire, but there is a problem. They stopped making that tire over a year ago. He has to do some searching tomorrow and he’ll get back to me. He found it in one place in Texas, but they want $89 plus $15 freight! For a $70 tire! GRRRRR….. I don’t like these stock Tahoe tires, but they do make it ride very cushy. I can also beat the hell out of them, because we have wanted to get rid of them. They squeal over everything! I want my wide tires back! They handle better, make the truck lower, look better, etc. BTW: My wide tires that are no longer manufactured (not the stock Tahoe ones) are 275 60R-15 Firestone Firehawk SS20.

Heh, your telling me!
I accidently back over a screw sticking out a cart in my garage and it scrapped the sidewall and punctured it...just so you know I have big-o a/t 75r15's, I went down and talked to the guy at the big-o place and he said they dont cover that sort of thing, so Im bum'd and had to get ONE new tire...guess how much it was? at first he told me $118 ...then he said he didnt have it and I would need to goto another location. So I goto the other location they tell me the tire is $128!! So I have them slap it on and the final bill? Approx. $165!!!!!!! For ONE tire...I was about to slit my wrists. I am not doing anymore business with them, theres more to it then just this story, but I will just stick with discount tire...they treat me right |

Looks like this link shows the new model of that Firestone Tire. If you end up replacing more than one of your tires, I've had good luck with BF Goodrich Radial T/A's in that size.

Thanks. They found one in Georgia for $80 with freight included. I'm going to have to go with that. This tire shop is great and it isn't their fault, but that one guy need to learn how to relate to people!!! The new model tire's tread looks better. What do you think it a better tire? Firestone, BF Goodrich - I want to get an idea of what kind of tires I can put on these rims that are this "sortof" low profile and wide.

I hate Discount Ripoff Tires. Had a problem with a Nissan Mini Van a couple of years ago. Tires wouldn't last. Found out they were selling me 30,000 mile tires and telling me they were 70,000 mile tires.
