Re: leaf spring lowering
I believe that chevelle springs will work as well. Much less arch on them.

Re: leaf spring lowering
Anyone have a rough estimate as to how expensive it would run ya having a shop cut and weld the spring perches? I assume any muffler shop could take care of that.
All 4 of my shocks are who knows how old. They ride like crap. After lowering would it be any wiser to spring the few extra bucks for the "lowered" truck shocks? Or would a regular pair of monroe gas or sensa trac suffice? Gotta add, i really like how this thread is turning out. All these rear leaf trucks coming out of the wood work. I also daily drive my 3/4 ton 72'. The gas is killing my wallet, but it sure keeps me happy. Last edited by exmonkeypunk; 06-11-2010 at 09:41 PM. |

Re: leaf spring lowering
you'd want to take just the axle in and already have everything mocked up (centered with right pinion angle etc) just because they can weld doesn't mean they have rearend experience but with them just having to lay down a couple welds im sure you could get it done for between a 12-pack and 50 bucks
for the shocks you don't Need them unless your shocks are bottoming out but if your already replacing them you might as well spend your money on something thats going to work better for you heres a picture of my truck with just a flip kit in the rear i haven't put a C-notch in yet its about sitting on the bump stops same ride height without the washing machine |

Re: leaf spring lowering
Mine aren't bottoming out, but the ride quality is horrible. Like riding a horse everywhere. I was hoping replacing at least the rear shocks would help out with that a little.

Re: leaf spring lowering
Ok so we finished up lowering my sons trucks last week. We went 2.5 spindles and 1.5 coils in the front and DJM Flip Kit in the back. the truck is sitting pretty level. There is no hole to drill. the axle locator that comes with the kit has it already drilled into it so I'm not sure what people are actually drilling. My next question is How do we know if the pinion angle is correct??? At the correct pinion angle are the locator brackets tilted slighty to the front? Thanks for all the response and help!!!!!!!!!!

Re: leaf spring lowering
Just Google 'Setting pinion angle'. There are a lot of write-up's out there on the subject and even some video's. I drove about 400 mile's before I shimmed mine and it toasted my already tired U-joint's.

Re: leaf spring lowering
I lowered my 3/4 ton on Friday. At first, I dropped it about 10". I later adjusted it to about 4", and then later back to stock height. I used 5,000 lbs of gravel.
