Very nice pics of the new paint on top! That looks like it'll be a cool dash when done! I like that blacked out Pete earlier as well!

Gotta fix AC before it gets too hot, but Lowered over Big wheels and a train horn are all in the works.

Re: BigRed 81 crewcab dually
I would love big truck wheels on a dually too, but I know they cost some pecos.

Re: BigRed 81 crewcab dually
trucks looking good Michael, thinking about getting rid of mine to get something a bit smaller like a k10 or blazer k5. How much of a drop you going to put on it?

Re: BigRed 81 crewcab dually
Its belongs to a bored member low1ton, this what it looks like after hills hot rods got a hold of costumizing it. I don't want to cut my bed up so I'm ok with a 6/8 stance over some semi 22.5 wheels.

Re: BigRed 81 crewcab dually
Gas Mileage??? What's that?? I ran out of gas the other morning and as I sat on the side of the highway my 2yr old son said, "dads truck no gas" I just smiled and said yup dads truck no gas. I've gotta fix those gauges.
Couple more random shots of my truck, and then one of it during a kansas monsoon this morning Last edited by BGRAFX; 06-12-2010 at 11:35 PM. |

Re: BigRed 81 crewcab dually
Michael, your truck looks sweet with the 2 tone. I had the same problem when I got my truck, gauge didn't work right, so I learned to read the gauge. I finally replaced it though with a used one that works. I have a spare one that works if you need it. And no, it's not my old one. LOL.

Re: BigRed 81 crewcab dually
Thanks guys I'm having a lot of fun driving this truck. Sure the gauges don't work and there's no radio or ac but I've got 3carseats across the back bench, fishing poles, swim gear, and radio flyer wagon in the bed. BigRed has taken the family everywhere we want to go. My buddy even hauled his camaro home the other day.

I have a Big block and a NV4500 in my 85 right now, but it is going to get pulled and is getting replaced by a Cummins. I borrowed a friends truck that had a Cummins in it Drove it for a month and found myself getting over 20mpg, needless to say going back to the 9mpg of the big block was a real buzz kill.

Re: BigRed 81 crewcab dually
I can't wait for the day that I open this thread and see a red suburban next to "Big Red" and thinking to myself..."Wait a minute...isn't that MY suburban?"
Funny stuff, love the random pics, keep it up. |

Re: BigRed 81 crewcab dually
Pretty much if I have an extra minute and I see another squarebody in a parking lot I will pull up next to it jump out take some pix and I'm off to my next adventure. That baby blue one sits in the same spot everyday for as long as I can remember, I figured it was lonely so I introduced the trucks to each other. Kinda like the movie cars all square body trucks are friends Lol.
We should get together sometime and introduce your burb to my dually. There are about 3 other red dually's on CL right now, I might just go take pics with them. one even has a similar paint scheme as mine! |

Re: BigRed 81 crewcab dually
What year tailgate is this? Are they interchangeable? I like the wording across the center although I will lose my tailgate lights if I change.

Re: BigRed 81 crewcab dually
That is the 73-80 lettering. Look under your tailgate band, it might be there. I am pretty sure LMC sells the mask to paint them.

Isn't that blue truck more like a '73-'74? I notice it has the raised ring around the center that would allow it to use the smaller trim piece that goes inside that ring. I know my dad's old '75 had the full trim piece. Unless all the '73-'80 tailgates were the same, but they just changed to the larger piece in '75? |

Re: BigRed 81 crewcab dually
However Michael isn't your truck actually a 74? If so you may get lucky and have the tailgate you are wanting.
