09's can take a hit

This is my 2009 2500HD work truck that got nailed by an out of county sherriff. She was doing at least 55 in a 35 zone with no lights or siren. I was in the passenger seat while a co-worker was driving. It was my service truck but he happened to be driving at the time. It weighed about 10k lbs with all my tools and gear in it. The insurance company ended up totalling it out. Im in the process of trying to buy it for the motor and trans for my 79. The truck only had 18,xxx miles on it. I picked it up brand spanking new last october with 2 miles on it. No airbags went off and not one piece of broken glass. we drove it on to the flatbed no problem. thank god for quality steel. heres the pics.

Re: 09's can take a hit

We all walked away no problem whatsoever. Yea she was speeding and everyone knew it. There was witesses that said she passed them no problem right before she hit us. No tickets were issued.....

there was no frame damage besides a mildly bent cab mount. It was all in the cab. they estimated it needed both doors new, Pside A piller bent, Full complete Pside B pillar and cab corner, and a new tool body at about $6k. The complete estimate came to about 18% of the vehicle's new cost so it was totalled. I dont know where they their stats from but I always thought it was at least 60-65%. Everyone at the scene was amazed we walked away no problem, we were actually kinda laughing before we got out, only because we were both ok after rolling the truck.

I did find what was rattling under the truck tho, a loose O2 sensor. It had been making noise for months and I could never find it, but when the truck is on its side you can get a good view of things haha.

Hopefully the insurance company will call me back so i can get the truck cheap.

Re: 09's can take a hit

if she would have hit another 3 feet forward I would have been the hospital. When we got the police report it was all crap, said she had a passenger, said her airbags went off, said SHE WAS DOING THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT. We were going to fight it until a cop told us they would have gotten us for failure to yield and some other crap so we dropped it. Everyone walked away so thats whats important.

Yielding to what? What is a cross section or something?

Its great everyone is okay but i hate how cops try to get out of stuff all the time... i got T boned by a cops girl friend when i was in high school... And on top of that she took off after she hit me... I followed her got her LP number got to school and called the cops (Before i had a cell phone) Cops come look at it and told me there was nothing they could do.. My mom talked to them they told her they couldn't do anything because i ran from the scene also by going to get her LP Number... A few days later we find out its his girlfriend my mom called are attorney and he called and talked to him and about 3 days later we got a call with all the insurance info and everything... I Know alot of cops that are very cool very nice people... But i really hate when they act like they are above the law and bend things in there favor

I'm glad everyone is ok. Cops sure can get away with a lot of BS.

Good luck on getting the truck.

Re: 09's can take a hit

yea we were turning left in a turn lane and there was 2 vans making u-turns in the opposing turn lane. it is offset just enough where you cant see oncoming traffic so we seen a big gap in traffic and we went. If the cop was doing the speed limit we would have made it easily, and on top of that she locked up the brakes and TURNED INTO US. arent they taught defensive driving??

Ahh it does suck that she was speeding but they are not really in the wrong on this... Even though what she was doing caused some of it you still turned in front of her.. It is kinda like rear ending someone.. And yeah but its still a girl Had to sorry

Re: 09's can take a hit

it could have been a lot worse. We just laughed about it for the most part, well until we had to unload the air compressor out of the back. getting $15k worth of tools out of it wasn't all that fun either, especially after a snake decided to take up refuge in the box.

Police officers are taught defensive driving but they are also taught that when an accident is going to happen to make it where body injury is to a minimum. Now she may not have done that but if she did I would say she did a good job. Just think if she wouldn't have turned into you she could have hit the rear end spinning you around. At which another car could have hit you or you could have spun into a pole or tree. I know when I went through all the patrol training and traffic training before I worked the road on Ft. Hood we learned all kinds of things about that.

Now as far as her not getting a speeding ticket, I am willing to bet she has an office job now. For at least 6 months. Police departments do not take traffic accidents lightly when it isn't due to a pursuit. Even then they do a lot of investigations into what happened.

In the long run. Glad both of y'all are ok and well. Sucks about the truck.
