Bit of an interior change

Well my kids have been arguing about rides in Vanessa ( my daughter named her) and since I could only take two people I decided to change to a bench seat. I found one on Kijiji for $50 out of a 89 chevy 1/2 ton in good shape and started from there.
The orignal seats were ok but I thought I could brighten up the inside a bit.

My friend Jody at Kustomline Trim Designs did the work on the
seat side panels visors and ceiling change.

I removed all the old seat parts which included stacks of washers
and various plumbing parts to try to level out the seats. The drivers seat foam was
starting to break down and I was getting a numb leg after a short drive.

I put down some extra insulation as well as piece of carpet for behind
the seat.

I ordered seat belts from www.seatbelt planet.com in a yellow. This was a set
of three point retractables and a lap belt with the old style lift latches. I did not think it was
worth my while to run around the junk yard searching for a set.
The belts were $65 for the 3 points and $16 for the lap belt.
I made up a mount for the shoulder belt out of a piece of steel
with a nut welded to it. Also a hole was drilled for a rivet to hold it
in incase I wanted to remove it.

Re: Bit of an interior change

The truck feel different to drive even with the shoulder strap
sitting on your shoulder. The mount cover can be ordered in different colors
and I'm thinking about going to a tan carpet so I went with tan covers.

Very nice, I love it. It's about what I plan on doing to mine except mine will be blue instead of yellow. Mine will definitely have the wide whites too.

Re: Bit of an interior change

I'm quite happy with the seat belts. I emailed back and forth a couple of times then called. Talked to Steve and placed my order. The color worked out great. It feels more secure driving with the shoulder belt on. I would recomend them.

Re: Bit of an interior change

Can you provide more detail on the 3 point belt and the mounting of the shoulder belt? There's more to it than the rivet I assume.

I made up a plate with a nut welded to it. I located the spot I wanted the shoulder mount to be then drilled a hole for the bolt. I threaded the bolt into the bracket and put it in the hole drilled. I used the hole I drilled for the rivet as a pilot hole and drilled into the inner panel to locate the rivet. I used a piece of coat hanger and taped the bracket to it. Fished the bracket up and used the main mounting bolt to draw the bracket tight. I then used the pin end of the rivet to move the bracket so I could rivet the bracket inside the panel. Now I can remove the main bolt and the rivet will hold it in place.

Here a link for more info. Sort of how I did it.

I'm really happy with how it turned out. The seat was starting it bother my back. It really brightened up the inside.
