1986 GMC grill.....what can I change it to?

My knowlege of square bodies...especially GMC, is limited. I brought this 86 home a few weeks ago and its going to be the next "freshen up" project. I really DONT like the grill. What are my bolt in with minor fabrication options? Any other year grills work or other option package? Chevy Silverado grill with GMC emblem? I know the single headlight thing with markers below narrows my options. Please include pictures if you have thoughts.

Thanks

OH..... and please dont say tube grill....I was a teen in the 80's and I dont care to go back there!!! They didnt look good then and they sure dont look good now!

I'm fairly certain that all grilles from 81-87 will fit in the opening between your headlamp bezels. So you have a wide range of choices really.

Just look on LMC's website. They have good pics, even if you don't buy from them. It wi show you all those that will fit. There are alot of options, ofcourse it comes down to personal preference. I don't like the tube grills either. My 87 K5 has one on it, that's how I bought it. I will be replacing it if it doesn't get sold this weekend.

I am driving an 87, but i had an 86 parts truck. Mine had the original single headlamp grille but it was pretty beat up, the 86 dual headlamp grille fit in pretty good and might I add looks damn sharp. Here is a pic.....

I personally like the 81-82 Chevy Eggcrate grille... closest you can get with your truck to the 1980 grille which is IMHO the best looking factory option grille for the entire series of trucks. Check Ebay, knockoffs and used ones can be had relatively cheap.

Re: 1986 GMC grill.....what can I change it to?

I like the GMC grille you have, but not the logo in the middle. I was considering changing mine out for a GMC aftermarket grille that deletes the logo. I think I saw one in one of the catalogs.

If you like the Chevy grille, it is available aftermarket pretty cheap. I bought one for mine for $27 locally, but have not yet installed it. You would, of course, need the trim and everythimng from a donor.

Re: 1986 GMC grill.....what can I change it to?

Im partial to my grill setup... it fits my truck IMO which is the same color as yours.. even though you said no tube grill... I would go with the 85/86 chevy grill if i didnt have my current set up..

different view...
