84 GMC C2500, V12 powered
I had to find something to clutter it with. Decided to start dragging potential parts vehicles home. If a buildable V-12 can be found, may work on another. Don't have a clue for a plan in mind. Just some ideas. Here's the first two parts possibilities. Like "Balaur", no telling where it will end, if ever. Will go over and get acquainted with the Alternate tinkerings forum crew. Anyone interested, come over and help me.
1984 GMC C2500 8600# GVW My Dad's '58 Chev Belair. Not used since 1967, still runs, needs restored. When better pics are posted, I'd sure need some photo-chop help. Cayoterun

I know where a buildable V-12 is. Here in San Angelo,Tx. I'll make a call and see if he will part with it. It's was ran on propane and was used for an irrigation pump.

A lot of the V12's were used to run irrigation pumps.They should have the higher 9:1 compression pistons already in them.Check around in irrigated farming country and you might find a core for cheap.

Does Chevy/GMC make a short bed for the '73-'87 pickups? If so, is the bed length taken from in front of the rear wheels? How much shorter is the short bed?
I'm wondering if using a short bed and sitting the cab back if I might be able to gain enough room on the '84 3/4 pic. above to use a V12. An '84 GMC 3/4 might make an intertesting project. I compared the GVWs on both Ford F350, frt axle gvw, 3600#. This '84 GMC 2500 frt gvw, 3700#. Pleasant surprise, and would feel confident the GMC would carry the added weight. I plan to use it's running gear on whatever we decide to use. I think I like the idea of using the '84 and staying as near stock appearance as possible, except the extended hood. I really don't like the idea of taking my Dad's old '58 car apart. It's too restorable to cut up. Still thinkin' and open to any ideas. Thanks, Cayoterun Mods. If a build gets started here, we can move to appropriate forum, right now, I don't know where to post. Present time I'm seeking info. and ideas.

The square body's do indeed have a swb but not for a 3/4+ . But the bed its self is the same throughout. So you should be able to put a swb bed on it. And iirc it is 6' long. I think this is a awesome idea. One very small thing you may not know is that the hoods on these trucks are weak as is. So you will have to find a way to stiffen it up a lot. But that's a small detail. You should start a thread in the 73-87 section.

There's a '58 Bel Air 4-dr hardtop about a half-mile from me. It was driven into the back yard about 4 years ago and parked. It's gold and white and I get sick every time I drive by it, knowing it's going to sit there until it rusts down.

Don't the 73-87 frames kick up right after the cab? That might make what you're thinking about a little harder. Not 100% on that... maybe it was just the 4x4's?
Please don't hack up that beautiful 58 for some huge ass engine swap. I think you did the 60's GMC truck with the extended front clip? It looks cool, but not for such a clean beautiful car. Cut the crap out of that 84, there's like millions of those things

I know with my off-the-wall tinkering, I really don't fit anywhere, but I sure thank you guys for letting me hang out over in one corner of your world. I sure got alot of good pointers from you guys on the last monstrosity. Bet I will here, too, if I get something going----or banished one. (grin). I've built some fairly nice cars and a couple of travel trailers in years past. At my age, I like to mess with something now, that if it never gets finished, I don't have a big pile of money tied up that we couldn't recover in case we really needed it. Since we nixed the car idea, I've found this truck, and a pretty good short bed, already. My thoughts now is another long nose, but use this foundation, and move the cab back with shorter matching bed. Probably, like the last truck, with everyone offering different ideas, it could go anywhere. I'll start a serious search for a motor now. It's crazy, but I'm a big fan of the old V12 motors and like to work with them. Included a pic of some of the cars we had at one time. The ragtops we did for our kids first cars. The kids still have them stored away. The impala was for me. I graduated in '58. Thanks, Cayoterun

What a barn find!! Saved it from the melting pot. A local doctor passed away sometime ago. He had a hobby farm and raised horses, but had some irrigation wells. They were disposing of his machinery, etc. They asked the fellow who used to work for him years ago if he wanted it. He said he'd haul it off to the scrap yard. The guy who was helping with all the doctors stuff called and asked if I'd be interested, if so, call the other guy. I did. He was working for the doctor about 10 years ago when this engine had had a complete overhaul, stored in their shop, and never been run, so knew it's history. I made him an offer at more than I could afford, so he sold it to me. For icing on the cake, when I got there this morning to pick it up, he had hooked up the fuel, stuck a battery on, and it fired right up.
May try to adapt a 5spd over manual behind this one. So now may the fun/work/flusterpation, and barn clutter begin, again.

Great find, I knew you couldn't stay away from em for long. I'm pretty sure some of the GM 3/4 tons in that age range came with a 14 bolt GM rear that you can still get 3.42 gears for.
