305 question

ive got a 86 silverado and im plannin to switch out the 305 motor and put a 350 in it. ive had somebody tell me about something about a knock sensor that is located on the side of the block. i didint know if there is a way to bypass this sensor wire and continue on with the 350 or would it be mandatory to keep this wire and do machine work to the 350 to make this sensor active.

Re: 305 question

if your 86 is like my 86 it was carbueratored and there was no ECM or EFI therefore a knock sensor is moot. You can leave the sensor in the block or remove it and plug the hole. You have to switch over the intake manifolds and make sure there is a cam lobe for the manual fuel pump or you have to wire up an electric fuel pump

Re: 305 question

You just phase out that electronic spark controller, the knock sensor is part of it. I just did this yesterday to my truck. The plug that comes out of the distributor with 4 wires, on the distributor side of the plug... just cut the green and black wire and splice them together. Unplug it and your good. This knowledge is courtesy of people from this forum.

Re: 305 question

You dont need no computer sensors on a 86 just get a mechanical advance distributor
