Rallye wheel cap questions
I'm normally on the '88-98 page, formerly found often on the '67-72 page. But, now I have a question for you guys.
I am going to put a set of square-body rally wheels, 7-inches wide, on my '96. I wondered if anyone has ever made an adapter that would allow you to use any of the aftermarket/OEM rallye caps, like the police cap, on these wheels. John Gilbert, former editor of Custom Classic Trucks, has a truck that got nicknamed the Americruise Truck. He had a one-off set of adapters for his rallye wheels, but the caps were even more odd. They had a Chevy logo on them that GM ordered out of production. So, none of that is around. So, anybody got any ideas? It ain't no show-stopper for my truck, just my quest for something a touch different.

Re: Rallye wheel cap questions
I asked John Gilbert the same question.
I hope he doesnt mind me posting his answer. "Those wheels were custom made for me by Rally America in Fresno, CA. They are C10 Rallys that were widened 1-inch to 8-inches. The centers are called a "toilet seat" and come from early Ford wire wheels. The hubcaps were made from re-pop '33 Ford hubcaps that were left blank and then a Chevy bowtie was stamped in. The hubcaps are extremely rare because Chevy filed some kind of lawsuit to make them stop producing them. "

Re: Rallye wheel cap questions
Same thing he wrote to me. I guess that it'll take someone with "experience and talent" who can find a way to take the bolt-on feature of the original center caps, then add the ring to it, that will then allow for the mounting of the cap. Probably not any real marketability, but the thought is there.

Re: Rallye wheel cap questions
Just for something different, you could use later model centers and the outside thread lug nuts and covers. It seems like the later Astro (before they went to 6 lug) had a center cap for the steel wheels that came out more around the lugs. I don't know how it would look, but it would be different.

Re: Rallye wheel cap questions
I had to go to the archives of CCT magazine to find the picture of the wheel. The article was about polishing wheel and caps, so a Mother's powerball is stuck in the middle of the cap. This isn't exactly what I'd like to see, but you get the idea. In this case, the adapter that is on the wheel, sticks out a lot farther than what I'd like to see. For me, I'd rather see the center cap closer to the spindle of the truck. But, you get my drift.

Re: Rallye wheel cap questions
I have Astro caps on my 90. My only problem is I'm losing the plastic lug nuts that keep the center caps on. I tried the caps on a truck ralley I have and it looks good.
