67 C10 bagged shock measurments?

I ordered a bunch of stuff from CPP who are awesome btw, but I ordered the wrong shocks for the front I know. The shocks I ordered measure 12 1/2 Extended and 8-1/2 collapsed. Well I just went out and measured and I got almost 16 extended and like 12 collapsed. My thing is that the shocks I got are for trucks that are lowered, stock sizes are 15-1/2 ext. and 10 collapsed. Why would stock seem to fit my bagged c10 better then lowered? Can someone who has a bagged 67-72 truck please measure their front and back for me? I went out to remeasure and for some reason my #1 piston is not firing and motors running like garbage. I know that your measurements might be different then mine but it gives me a better idea as to what to get. I have a c-notch in the rear btw. Thanks all.

Re: 67 C10 bagged shock measurments?

Oh yeah, I also bought relocation kits for the front and back, The front mount on top of the frame and the back mount on the old rivets up top, and under it mounts under the trailing arms.

Maybe I should put this in the 67-72 truck board....

When you say that you went out and measured,do you mean you measured the distance between the shock mounts on the truck?

Re: 67 C10 bagged shock measurments?

No, I measured between where the shock will mount to, top and bottom. So my shocks mount on top of frame so I did a rough estimate measurement from where the top bracket would be to where my lower a-frame mount is. Thanks for responding man.

Re: 67 C10 bagged shock measurments?

I can't help with a measurement cuz my truck is 3hrs away from here, but I think I'd either go with your estimate or wait till the relocators get there and measure eye to eye when they're on the truck. You can't go wrong then.

Re: 67 C10 bagged shock measurments?

I did, I just thought my measurements were wrong because a basic stock shock would do better then one that's for a lower truck ya know?

Re: 67 C10 bagged shock measurments?

I don't have a measurement, but my front shocks are stock height and the rears were made for a late 80's - early 90's Toyota truck. I have them listed on my build thread.

Re: 67 C10 bagged shock measurments?

I guess I will go with stock for front and back, hopefully I won't blow em out.

Or, you could research a little more before making the decision?..... Read TCB's build thread for several good ideas & possible answers to the questions you've asked.

Air your truck out & get a measurement from the stock mounting locations.
Raise it to max lift & get a measurement from the stock mounting locations.
Adjust the truck to ride height & get a measurement from the stock mounting locations.

With these dimensions you'll have a good idea of what you need to compare vs. what others have used. You can also call whomever is making your shock relocation brackets & ask them how much more travel they offer vs. the stock arrangement. That answer w/some quick math should help make an educated decision vs. being "hopeful".

Re: 67 C10 bagged shock measurments?

Well, I did do my measurements when aired full and aired out. I said I got 12 collapsed and 16 extended which is what stock shocks basically are. I was thinking (don't know where I got this idea) that I would need other than stock shocks for this bagged truck. I am just trying to get other peoples educated opinions. It just does not seem right that the stock ones seem to fit better then the ones that are for lowered trucks. Does that make sense to you and if so, please explain because I don't get it.

Re: 67 C10 bagged shock measurments?

BTW, I have a CPP catalog which has the dimensions of their shocks, stock and lowered. I ordered the lowered and they will not give me the right extension.

Stock =15-1/2 Ext. 10 Coll.
Lowered = 12-1/2 Ext. 8-1/2 Coll.

Re: 67 C10 bagged shock measurments?

just to clarify, you ordered lowered shocks and the shock re locaters that move the upper shock mount up? i think the re locaters are intended for stock length shocks. i alway just measure extended and collapsed and order what fits. also if your afraid of over extending the shock you can put limit straps on it

Look @ the dimensions again. The stock shock yields 5.5" of possible shock travel. The dropped shock yields 4" of possible travel.

The 'typical' lowered truck (in theory), should have less overall suspension travel vs. one @ stock height. Dropped trucks are 'typically' built w/dropped coil springs which won't extend like a truck on air. Shorter coils = shorter travel which is a big consideration for selling/recommending a dropped shock because the most common failure is likely damages from bottoming out the shock w/the full weight of the front end. Being on air means there's a need for more compression & extension which is typically the stock shock range (or a shock w/better dimensions).

Does that catalog list the amount of difference in the new upper mounts vs. the OE upper mount? You really need to have that dimension to know what will work.

Or.... you can buy some shocks & build the mounts to optimize the shocks travel w/your needs.

Re: 67 C10 bagged shock measurments?

Thanks Scoti, that does make some sense now. The mounts I have I can basically mount them where I want but I am limited by height. I can only go so high as the top of the frame. I don't want to mount them on the side either, I would much rather have them on top so I think I will go with the stock shocks. Even though I'm 90% sure they will be fine, there is always that 10% that's makes me say hopefully. Hey laid out, what are limit straps and where would I get one?

Re: 67 C10 bagged shock measurments?

I forgot where I seen it but I heard a 50's chrysler has the right dimensions for the front. that's what I plan on using. can't help for the rear, I used stock shocks with new shock mounts welded in a different area, with a step notch.

Re: 67 C10 bagged shock measurments?

Hey Kev, where do your mounts locate on the rear? Mine I believe are under the trailing arms and where the tops were rivited in. I did buy relocator kits at well.

ya, that's where mine were. but my new mounts are welded on my bridge bar on top, and the bottom brackets are welded to the axle. I should have a picture in my build thread I think..

Re: 67 C10 bagged shock measurments?

yeah I see how you did yours, I have just a c notch so and I already have the brackets. Thanks everyone, I ordered the stock shocks and they should be fine, if not, I will fabricate them till they are!

Re: 67 C10 bagged shock measurments?

lol. they should work as im pretty sure the relocation brackets are made for stock shocks. and if they don't fit, some welded in shock tabs where you want them will work too.
