Re: how not to lower your truck!
when you go to swap the five lug rear make sure you have the e-brake cable disconnected. otherwise you might just try and pull the truck over on your lap...

Re: how not to lower your truck!
Damn!!! Glad you nor the truck were hurt.
Had a similar thing working on a Baja bug. I was resetting the rear spring plates to lift it. I had the jack chained to the body while I lifted up the spring plate to get it over the stop. The jack basically flipped itself under the load and the spring plate slammed the floor, knocking the whole car off the jack stands. Had my leg been under there, it would not be attached today. There is still a gouge in my parents garage floor.

Re: how not to lower your truck!
Is that driveway on a little bit of an angle too?
that could play into it. my driveway slopes down a little, and makes me nervous to jack anything on it, stuff is always trying to move down hill.... glad/lucky you came out ok!

Re: how not to lower your truck!
You are not alone. It happened to me dropping the tank on a camaro, but we managed to stabilize it before it fell. Wasn't a funny split second though. Just about crapped me pants. Wasn't my car either.

Re: how not to lower your truck!
Heavy duty jackstands are good but I always throw the tires and rims under the frame somewhere too or use my floor jack as a backup under the rearend or front crossmember.

Re: how not to lower your truck!
I got lucky with four broken ribs, torn cartilage and a dislocated shoulder. Now I usually put a 16" firewood round under anything I'm under. Scary stuff.

Re: how not to lower your truck!
Glad to see your ok I also have had a vehicle come down on me but I was laying under it on jackstands and front wheels chocked well one of the supports on the stand broke and I moved just enough to not get my head smashed by the rearend.

Glad you or the truck wasn't hurt. I've scared the crap out of myself a time or two with some wobbling on the stands. Never fun.

Re: how not to lower your truck!
Glad your ok Glendale
My scariest predictament was swapping out a grenaded rear u-joint on the side of the highway on my lowered g body Grand prix with only a bumper jack, the cars whizzing by wasn't too bad,it was the semi trucks that made things move while I was under there. I think back to that day everytime I jack up a vehicle. Like others have said, anything you can throw under there as a secondary precaution is a good thing. Years ago, my Dads neighbor never made it out from under his own ride. T
