Front grill question on a 70-72 gmc?

1st of: "Forgive Me Forum Members....For I Have Sinned".

This question I believe was answered VERY THOROUGHLY by a Member about 6 Months ago.
Unfortunatly, my Computer with all my Folders & Truck stuff, had DIED.
I am on a Borrowed Computer that has "just the basics", so I ask again....

I have a 72 GMC Short/Fleet.
The Grill is the one with the "Painted Black" insert.
I like the look of the Polished Grill (on I believe the 70/71 GMC) WITHOUT the painted insert.

If I order the earlier "All Chrome" Grill....

1) Will it fit my 72 WITHOUT MODIFICATION?

2) If NOT, then exactley WHAT Mods, need to be done to get it to fit?

My current Grill has a couple of small dents (Pencil eraser size), and I was thinking if it was too much trouble, then I'd have the Body Shop remove the Grill and I'd take some "Zip Strip" to it,
at home and then some 000 or 0000 Steel Wool and bring it BACK to the Body Shop.

What would some of YPOU do in this instance?

Money is not a big problem, as I'm receiving a $ettlement after 4 long years,
but if I can acheive the look I want, with what I ALREADY HAVE, then that would be $300.00
I could spend elsewhere on it.

Thoughts/Comments are appreciated!

all gmc grills are interchangable with only lite mods to the top bar and thats only for the 67-68 grills i believe 69-72 will interchange with no mods at all

You can order a 70 grill and just remove the black paint with paint thinner. Took me 5 minutes. Either way any grill will work I guess.

Well if thats the case, I'll just have the Body Shop remove mine and I'll strip the paint off.
Did you have to "Polish" yours up, afterwards, and if so, how or with what?

Also do you have some "Straight On" piucs you could post in this thread?

;0)

Re: Front grill question on a 70-72 gmc?

I purchased a new grill from classic truck parts.

Found herehttp://www.classicparts.com/1968-70-...ctinfo/61-057/

The black paint on it is very poor paint. I literally put some thinner on a rag and just wiped it off. If you left it on the grill a bug hitting it would knock it off. No polishing was necessary. Just used to some windex to make sure all the thinner was off.

This is the best pic I have of my grill.

If money is not a problem... Get your old grill rechromed. They will fix the dents and it will fit WAY better. Just take it to a good chromer. (personal experience)

Re: Front grill question on a 70-72 gmc?

1970 did NOT have black paint in center.
See brouchures and ads . Keep it real. I personally like the look.
