LSx complete drive train swap ?

So I've searched high and low for someone who has done this but cant find anything. I would like to know if a engine, trans and transfer case will all work in an 86 4x4. I have been reading a lot about these swaps but haven't found the specifics on the transfer case. I know i can do the engine and trans via mounting plates and brackets. I recently purchased a Crew cab that was converted to 4x4 and am looking at an LSx swap for the dependability/mileage. Thanks for the help guys.

Re: LSx complete drive train swap ?

I *think* that the TC driveline drop is on the driver's side, so that would be a significant issue. You may also need to incorporate the BCM as well, as the 4x4 operation is push button... Just thinking out loud here.

I've yet to read a thread (at least that I remember) that utilized the complete LSx drivetrain package.

Re: LSx complete drive train swap ?

You could use a LS engine and trans with an adapter from Advance Adapters and use whatever transfer case you already have. Or use a LS engine, 2wheel drive trans and a divorced case. Or, my last preferable option, swap your front axle for a Ford front axle and use the LS specific transfer case. Although, I think you do have to incorporate the BCM to run the t-case unless you leave it in 4 high and run full time 4x4.

Re: LSx complete drive train swap ?

Thanks for the help guys. I think I'll look into the adapter route. I don't have a transfer case right now but it sounds like the easiest route.
