Steering Column Questions

I'm looking to purchase a aftermarket steering column for my 1963 c10. I am looking to go with something from Flaming River or Ididit but I am a big guy and I'm looking for a little more room so my question is should I go with a steering column that is shorter (30" or 32") and mount it or is there a column out there that will be a bolt in and also provide the room I'm looking for. And if I go with the shorter one that has to be mounted how would I go about doing this. Thanks for your info.
