85-6-7 k10 6.0 swaps???

my eyes are starting to bleed and i have not found any threads on a 80's k10 swap
can any of you point me to a thread that has been completed or somewhat done.
i have seen/read the threads/faq's with all info but can't get any more on the mounts and trans swap info for the 4wd's
seen the reference to pacific's mount but no other info..?
is it needed if truck is lifted 4 or 6"? assume there would be a diff/pan clearance issue if not.
truck curently has 350/700r...can 4l60e mate to existing tc?
tia

Re: 85-6-7 k10 6.0 swaps???

Have you searched on Pirate4x4?

I can't recall what auto transmission/TC combos guys are using, but they are doing it. No doubt it would be easier to use what you have, but you will loose the tighter integration (electronic) that the later transmissions would provide.

I'm doing a swap into my K5 with a SM465 manual, so I've had my own challenges trying to find what flywheel/clutch to use, but I think I got that nailed.

pirate4x4 a website or member?
i'd like to use 4l80 or 4l60/65 trans with existing t/c...i was told that they thought it would mate but looking for someone that has done one.

did you use the regular plates/mounts all the 2wd threads have been using or did you have to usethe one from pacific?

Re: 85-6-7 k10 6.0 swaps???

I plan on using adjustable mounts, probably from DirtyDingo. Since this is a manual transmission install, I do not want to relocate anything behind the bellhousing. I'm pretty sure the Pacific mount is specific for the '67-72's.

Pirate4x4 is a www site and it is not specific to GM trucks. Not nearly as friendly as this site, just so 'ya know. I've seen more than one nOOb fried over there! None the less, there are some nuggets of good info sprinkled here and there if you do enough searching.

Hope this helps.

Daxx, where in central mass are you? I just did a 5.3 into an 87k10 you can come by and check it out if you'd like. I had to do some cutting and welding to get it to mount up right. I have it hooked to the th400 right now, I am in the process of trying to figure out how to get it to mate to the 4l80e.

Here is the link that TheAlien has posted in the FAQ section...

There's tons & tons of info and most of it is 4x4 related.

Re: 85-6-7 k10 6.0 swaps???

I had to cut out one of the crossmembers in the front and move the motor back about 1 3/4". I made the motor mount plates bigger and just slid everyhting back. I am right in Sutton, let me know when you will be around. The truck is getting the exhaust put on it in Charlton, but I am hoping to have it back by the weekend.
