LSx swaps - what headers you using?

Just as the title says...what headers are you running, how do they fit (list mods needed), and hows there quality/looks?

I'm looking at several different options for larger (1 3/4" or 1 7/8", even stepped) tube headers. The DT headers fit the 67-72 trucks excellent...but only have 1 5/8" primaries, so they're a bit small for the larger displacement/horsepower LSx swaps.

I'm looking at these pretty seriously right now...only I have no idea of delivery time...which to me is becoming a bigger issue the longer I wait to get them.

dynatech LSx swap headers

http://www.speedwaymotors.com/NEW-Dy...LS2,41921.html

They have 1 7/8" primaries and either 2.5" or 3" collectors, 3/8 flanges, 4 bolt collectors, reducers inlcuded, and they're ceramic coated...all for $399! Of course if it takes over a month the get them....

Re: LSx swaps - what headers you using?

I have a set of edelbrock F-body headers.. 1 3/4 stepped to 1 7/8. They made 449rwhp with a 347 ci motor through a 4l80e. I'm on the fence about selling them since I have a 418ci motor now. Would like to go 1 7/8 to 2" Still made 521rwhp with the 418..

Re: LSx swaps - what headers you using?

My engine came from a guy who was building a S/10 and ran out of money, he had already bought Sanderson headers, for a s/10 conversion. I probably never would have looked at these headers if I had to shop for a pair, But i think they fit so well that my next project i will probably use them again.

http://www.sandersonheaders.com/Sand...El-Camino.html

I'm using CCP tubular engine mounts and the headers fit almost perfectly. The only modification that had to be done was, grind a little off of the corner of each tubular mount. (no more than a 1/4") and that was it. as far a quality they seam to be built good a strong. mine have been sitting around a few years so the have some surface rust on them.

Re: LSx swaps - what headers you using?

I've also looked at Sanderson. I was looking at the swept back shorties...like those...but in the 1 3/4" they offer it in. Those look like the smaller 1 5/8" or even 1.50".

Re: LSx swaps - what headers you using?

Does the f body header hang below the frame rail?? I actually saw some on eBay pretty cheap and was considering ordering there until the time is right I would lime to have the Doug thoroughly headers but @ 600.00 I'd have to wait some time for that

If people are buying the DT swap headers for $600 I am going to have to go up and start making some $ on them!

Re: LSx swaps - what headers you using?

weren't the larger tube primary headers going to be like $100 more?...if they ever make them?

Is all you need is an order to get a set of the large tube DT's going? (As originally discussed being produced/guesstimated off the 324y welding fixture and not a live truck and then shipped for verification of fitment, before returning for finaliztion/coatings)

I put the Sanderson CSLS1 shorties on my LSx swap in my 65, the fit perfectly without any "adjusting" at all. I used the POL mounts.

Re: LSx swaps - what headers you using?

wound up going with the DynaTech 1 7/8" long tube headers with 3" collectors and reducers made for a '70-'81 f-body LSx conversion. They are a close fit in a few places...but I didn't have to modify a thing. No grinding, denting, or anything else...and they look great!

Re: LSx swaps - what headers you using?

68GMC: what trans will you be running? is the sig right, 2004R4? when will you get the trans attached and I want to see pix of how well they clear the trans.
this might be a good option for many folks!!
they exit close to like the DTs, just have to bend the tube down around the crossmember.

Re: LSx swaps - what headers you using?

Thanks guys. Item is #115-909400 not sure if needed but also has 30C at end (115-90940030C)...with some other numbers for the collector reducers. FYI...they also make these in stepped versions, which I didn't find out until later. The manual I have shows they make them in 1 5/8" to 1 3/4" stepped and 1 3/4" to 1 7/8" stepped....painted or ceramic. At $399 for LSx swap big tube ceramic LT headers they're great! And btw....for those with slightly different mounts and trans then mine....they make these headers for 67-69 Camaro's, late 60-70's Novas, and 70-72 Chevelles too....my guess is one would work!

Shon...yes its a 200-4r. I plan on bringing the exhaust up into the frame...so just the collectors and reducers/intermideiate pipes will hang below the frame.

Which I think is how most of the DTs are ran, or that is how it sounds that mine are done, without pix its hard to be certain!

$399 for ceramic WOW, that is a good deal!

Re: LSx swaps - what headers you using?

I thought so! not all of their LSX swap headers are that cheap either....some are priced nearer the competition...$600-$1200 depending on header/vehicle/motor combo.

Re: LSx swaps - what headers you using?

I have been looking for headers as well for my '87 5.3 swap as well. I ran across some from Schoenfeld which are their LS truck long tube headers for 88-95, if not mistaken. However I found this thread where a guy with an '84 used them and claimed that no trimming was required and they worked great. Prior to finding this link I spoke with Doug at Schoenfeld amd he said that he was almost certain they would work. I can't see the pics on the link; I even joined the site to see if they would come up but no luck. I think I will go with Schoenfeld's.

I love my DT 324yc's. They fit great and don't hang down below the frame rail. Tuck in nice right next to the trans. which is great for us airride guys and those of us that run the exhaust thru the crossmember, all hidden and incognito and junk!

Looks like you've got that motor mounted about as far back as it can go. What mounts and brackets are those?

engine mount kit - part # 16820
engine mount pad - part # 7-509-BL (I upgraded with the polyurethane.

I purchased them from Tuckers here in Vegas. The boxes were all labled classic performace parts. I could not go anymore forward without the oil pan making contact with the front crossmember. Running the T56 6 speed trans put my shifter right where i wanted it.
