Instrument panel on 90 'Burb

Hello,

I have a 1990 R1500 Chevy Burb, and I am considering doing a custom instrument panel. I have read that there are two types of Spedometers, one that has a mechanical cable and one that is electronic. I have not taken the dash apart yet to see what I have, but if it has the mechanical type, is it possible to convert to an electronic type? Dealing with an electronic signal is way easier than a mechanical one and doing the conversion.

Thanks,

Lou

Autometer has everything you need but its not cheap. You will need the speedo and the sending unit (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ATM-5291/) that attaches to trans.

89 and down suburbans have cable driven speedo, for sure. 91 suburbans have electronic speedos, for sure. 90 model I'm not 100% on, but I'm thinking they are electronic. 81-87 trucks all had cable driven speedos in them.

The break is in 90. All 4wd trucks had electric speedo, some 2wd. Easiest way to tell is to slide under it on the drivers side and look at the tailhousing.
