64/65 C-10 Hubcaps
Can anyone share thoughts or verify the following information?
While the chrome hubcaps for 64-66 trucks were similar and not the same as the 60-63 hubcaps, the main difference between the 64-65 and 1966 hubcaps was that their was a "raised rib" around the perimimeter of the scallops to provide additional stiffness. Picture is believed to be of 64 hubcaps. |

those are 64-5, 66 had the rib, and repros are 66's with the rib
** bowtie looks a little off on the repro cap as well.....

Re: 64/65 C-10 Hubcaps
What about the mounting differences. I have a 66 3/4t and my caps have a ring around the mounting surface that engage with 4 clips. How do the 1/2t caps mount and are the aftermarket ones the same? What is the diameter of the aftermarket ones? Can i come up with a way to adapt the aftermarket ones to my 3/4t wheels? Or newer 70's chevy wheels? I would like to use the newer caps on the newer rims. Id like to get rid of my split rims. My tires are on borrowed time. They are the bias ply, and they have the old pie crust edge. So i know they are old! I cant seem to find dimensions for the caps or the newer truck rims.

No, the 1/2 ton repoped style will only fit 1/2 ton bump style wheels, nothing else. If you want to get rid of your split rims, find the plentiful 8 lug 17.5" one piece wheel that was offered from '60 to '66. These wheels have clips and you can still use your 3/4 ton hubcaps. The problem is there is no direct replacement for your 3/4 ton 16" 2 piece wheel with clips, there is no 16" one piece wheel with clips.Newer 3/4 ton 16" wheels use bumps and will not except repoped 1/2 ton hubcaps or your original 3/4 ton caps designed for wheels with clips. The 8-17.5 tires are still available for a few extra dollars, but they are worth if you want to keep an authentic look. Believe me, with any other late model wheel, your truck wont look the same as it does now.

Re: 64/65 C-10 Hubcaps
These are the bump wheels... on my 1965 C10 A fella I know who's truck has been in the family since it was new... has his original wheels... and he sent me this: I checked on the wheels in my garage. They have just 3 dimples, not 4. They are the original wheels that came on the truck. so... a few of my wheels there are for the earlier 60's trucks with the 4 bumps. The caps will fit either as far as I know. Good luck. -W |

I have a 61 and my wheels have the 3 bumps. I'm pretty sure the 4 bumps didn't come out till after 66.

Re: 64/65 C-10 Hubcaps
in those pics the first 3 wheels are 73-87, might be 67-72 as well, but I do not know as much about those years.
the las 2 wheels are the 60-66 , except in 1/2 ton I am not sure when they stopped using the clip wheels, I know 60's had the non spit rim clip style, 61 might have been the first year for the snap on cap? Quote:

Re: 64/65 C-10 Hubcaps
also i would like to add that the reproduction hubcaps are chrome plated steel.the original bright hubcaps were stainless steel and not chrome.the bright stainless steel hubcaps came on trucks with the chrome front bumper (also rear chrome bumper unless it was ordered without a rear bumper or could also have a dealer installed rear step bumper)the chrome front bumper and stainless hubcap package was called the custom chrome package when ordering a new truck at the dealer.this package was not included with the custom cab package.it had to be ordered seperately.i have seen many original custom cab trucks with the painted bumpers and hubcaps.
