How wide is your axle? WMS to WMS? Im thinking about doing something similiar and my axle is 56 3/4" wide.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

It was 49" from outseide of hub to hub. this will vary depending on what brake system you run and of course the back spacing of wheel.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

Still battling with alignment issues. Passenger and driver side are so whack they need a prayer. I started on the passenger side the top of fender closest to the door needs to be grinded down and on the top it has a huge gap that needs to be built up with weld, and the door has a really big gap all around the top side needs to be built up also. I tried all possible combinations shimming the fender to raise the fender lost the crease line, but in order to keep the crease line this was the only way. I am trying to align the panels to rival those of new cars.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

Good luck with that. Its a common issue on these trucks, and there is no easy fix. I had a Master Tech look at my Blazer to see what would work. He did the same thing you did by playing with the gaps. The body line is the deal breaker.

His approach was going to be build the window frame rather than the door and fender edge. His thoughts were if the door or fender ever need replaced, they were standard size.

I agree. Fit the cab to the doors and the door to the fender.

A fender is more likely to need replaced so keeping it stock and modding the door to match would make the most sense.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

It was best if i moded the fender the line of the door would look odd if i moded the door instead, and the fender is 1 Off its shaved on the inside

The gap between the fender and door is good now it is eaven from top to bottom. I only got as far as taking the extension piece still need to finish welding and grinding it accordingly. After this I will take on the gap between the cab and door. Last I will deal with the backside of door to cab

Panels are almost perfectly flush expet for some problem areas that will get adressd later, from fender to door and the crease is right on

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

Passenger side is almost complete. The door got a beating some areas had to go in and others out but it is good now.
The column or pillar on the cab was slighly out by a 1/16 or 1/8 so i sloted it just the with of the zip disc hammered it in then tack it. If I were to pop the spot welds i would of been there all day.
Panels are perfectly flush all the way around the door to fender to cab I had to beat the lights out of the door edge trim to get it were it needed to be.
