But i have a gas tank soon to arrive so it won't be that way for long

today i hualed in 700.00 worth of scrap metal so i can afford to work on my truck. The wife is really going to enjoy her christmas present, new gauge cluster for my truck. lol

Fixed the gas gauge (bad float), Fixed the blower motor, and fixed a nasty exhaust leak caused by my carb spacer... guess Ill just have to live with the heat soak... for now.

Although I find it "purdy", how do you folks live with that? i would go insane (although I don't have far to go to get there)

Took her off to the body man to get new rockers, cab supports, floor pans, and center cab supports put on her. Hope he doesn't take forever to do it.... welding isn't my forte and I really wanted to save this BBW cab.

Formed the flanges into the rear cab wall for the cab vents. Bolted the vent surrounds in and trimmed the cab flanges flush.

Next step is to prime the surrounds, install them and seam seal the joints.

Ive lived here all my life, ya get used to it. Makes people crazy toward the end of the winter, but i don't mind it.

I got bored so I took a wire wheel to my upper control arm so it kinda matches the lower.

Washington law mandates new reflectorized license plates every 7 years, so those got installed this morning. Also test fit the new 15x7 TTO front wheels and re-engineered the gas pedal pivot making for much smoother operation. It was nice having garage temperatures in the 40's again so I could be out there for a while.

Not a whole lot to show, but here it is. I’m running a 1960’s era Cal Custom aluminum pedal, attached to an original Moon pedal pivot. This is mounted on a stainless steel plate which bolts to the floor using the original captive nuts. There’s a block of Delrin on the back of the pedal which acts as a rubbing surface for the factory firewall linkage, and an anti-rattle spring which applies a small amount of downforce on the pedal to keep it from rattling against the throttle rod.

Although I’ve had this in place for a number of years, it was beginning to a feel a bit notchy. After studying the angles I realized the setup would benefit by having the pivot relocated. Since I didn’t want to drill more holes in the floor or firewall, I simply made a larger stainless steel plate which moved the pivot bracket forward 1 inch, over 1/4 inch, and rotated the pedal slightly to the right. I also added a new grade 5 pivot bolt. The changes make it feel like it’s on ball bearings.

Me too --I was thinking of the the old barefoot surfer style gas pedal. I had one in a rod many years ago. I found a few still around on E-bay. Just might have to order one.

The bare foot versions are still available NOS or new. There’s even a matching dimmer switch cover, although I’m not sure how practical that would be.

Just be careful shopping for a used one on eBay. A lot of people “get the fever” and bid these things up well beyond the price of new. Same thing happens with Moon pedals. I believe all the bare foot versions clamp to the existing stock pedal.

If you decide to go with the old Moon style pedal, there were 3 basic flavors available back in the 60’s – Cal Custom (which I have), Eelco, and Moon. Any of these can be returned to like new condition by sandblasting. I got tired of mine getting stained with dirt, so I blasted it and painted it with POR-15 Sterling Silver several years ago. About every 6 months I spray it with Windex and scrub it with a tooth brush, then wipe it off and it looks like new again.

There were also off brands, and some sellers on eBay try to pass off bus pedals, and even drum pedals as speed equipment. I’ve also seen several apparent Moon pedals with a different word cast in, frequently ending in H.S. These were normally cast in high school metal shops back in the 60’s in a sand cast mold made from a genuine Moon pedal. Here’s a quick description of each of the main brands one at a time so it doesn’t get too confusing.

The Moon pedal was by far the most popular and can still be purchased new from Mooneyes. I tried using an old original Moon pedal first, but they have a raised border, rim, ledge or whatever you want to call it on the left side as well as the right side and bottom. In real world use the left hand border interfered with operation of the brake pedal, so initially I removed the left border. I kept trimming more and more to get to work until it soon looked like crap so I started looking for one of the other brands.

Next up is Cal Custom which looks very similar to the Eelco version, except for the pyramid or waffle pattern. Cal Custom is indented while Eelco protrudes. The only advantage of one over the other is the Eelco is probably easier to clean. Neither of these brands have the ledge on the left side.

I bought my Cal Custom pedal on eBay which is the only place I have found any in many years. You may have luck locally if you have swap meets in the area. Cal Custom came in two styles, heel pivot and clamp on (to attach to a stock accelerator pedal). Mine is a heel pivot type, attached to an original Moon heel pivot bracket. Here are a few pictures of both styles:







Cal Custom also offered a matching dimmer pedal. I bought one as a kid and put it in our 52 Oldsmobile, but my dad hated it and kept pulling it out because his shoe constantly hung up on the side of the miniature. I've seen these on eBay sell for anywhere between $20 up to $75. Here’s a couple of pics:




Eelco is the 3rd brand and here are a few photos. They can always be identified by the little barefoot insignia on the back.






All 3 brands seem to be equally popular now, and condition seems to be the most important factor in their cost. I’ve also seen bidding fever drive a mediocre Moon pedal over $100, when a new one could be purchased for less than half that amount.

I got a 65 big window from my renter in lieu of a months rent... it's rough

It hadn't been started in two years so last night I bought a battery for it, a couple gallons of gas, and a can of starter fluid.

It took a while and when it finally came to life water started spraying out the middle of the metal upper radiator hose/pipe.

So today I got me a radiator hose, a one day vehicle move permit, and I'm on a mission to drive that truck an hour and a half to my place

Thanks Vernski, I routinely focus way too much time on details I’m interested in. I like to share as much as possible for those that may care about this stuff in the future, when there aren’t any more old guys around to ask.
