Re: I got an idea... easy mid bed
I would pass on that. I used to be a swb person only, but have seen way to many nicely done longbeds to cut one up now. In fact when my son and I get done with this one,-I am doing a longbed for myself.

Re: I got an idea... easy mid bed
You also dont get the cool handling characteristics that a short bed has being as it has a shorter wheelbase....

Re: I got an idea... easy mid bed
when you 1st look at these trucks, if you don't already have "chopping the bed" in your mind, then they look like someone moved the rear axle FARTHER to the rear. just the way i see the truck.

It's beautiful work and coolest of all is his granddad bought that truck new! It said he took out 20" so I'm thinking he took the 12 out of the middle and 8 out behind the wheels that most conversions do That's some really nice work on that one! Last edited by StevieC; 12-07-2010 at 11:28 PM. |

Re: I got an idea... easy mid bed
I know the short beds are the sexy pick when doing a build, I personally like the short beds better in the square bodies. I love the long fleets in this body style though. Especially when they are lowered down they just look so slick to me.

Re: I got an idea... easy mid bed
Here is what a friend of mine has. He actually got the bed off of craigslist. It needs some work but his truck is a shortbed and this bed was cut between the cab and wheel only. The back is still longbed length. I kinda like it.

Re: I got an idea... easy mid bed
Add a little rake to it, some wide tires out back.... It could be kinda cool if it was done right...

Re: I got an idea... easy mid bed
This is not something I would do to my own truck, but it is an interesting idea.
Would that improve the handling? Kind of like with cars where they push the tires as far out towards the corners as possible. I guess it would remove weight from an already light rear end though. That would make the front/rear weight balance worse then it already is. |
