Re: Regarding Small Step-Vans Custom or Stock
Man I love all the Step van pictures. I acquired my step van about a year ago and I absolutely love it. It's a 1991 GMC Utilimaster with a 6.2 liter diesel. I've been slowly converting it into an RV/daily driver.
So far I put some pretty big RV windows in it (they're also emergency exits) and changed the headlights to Freight-liner style headlights and put led tail lights in her. I also picked up a bench style seat that folds into a bed, put all new wood in the rear and picked up two comfy bucket seats. I'm thinking about installing a front axle and making it into a 4x4. It doesn't look too hard. Whatcha Think??? Last edited by zip76; 01-03-2011 at 12:42 PM. |

What axle would you put under it, would you lift it or just leave it the same height? Last edited by Mkcustums; 01-03-2011 at 12:59 PM. |

Re: Regarding Small Step-Vans Custom or Stock
I know nothing about those besides what they look like. It's at least a 1 or like 1 1/2 ton right? You have to consider the weight, steering, axle width, crossmember clearances, trans, and transfer case. New drivelines, brake lines, maybe exhaust, and all that fun extra stuff. From what I see you would have to lift it for sure. What James did to his would be simple by comparison. I'm not trying to sound negative or discouraging, just by looking at the pics it looks pretty involded.
Other guys on here that own them or at least familiar with them will be way more help about that than I am. |

Re: Regarding Small Step-Vans Custom or Stock
Wow that sucks....sorry to hear that. Here's a good website for step van ,etc parts. http://www.stepvanparts.com/gm_p30_chassis_p1.htm
I've ordered numerous parts from them and they ship very fast. Hopefully this helps. Worst case....if they don't have the parts ya need....call them and ask if they know who would. I talked to them a couple times and they seem very nice. By the way.......ya got any pics???? I'd be curious to see the damage. |
