here are some pics i snapped when i was testing out my mom's new camera... the first one is the front of the stipeed out cab, does anyone know how to get all that black crap off?

the second is the frame... so far i've got the flip kit and shackles installed, along with the 12 bolt. dont mind that heap in the background...

Wow, your garage sure is clean. I've got crap layed out all over my cab and stuff all around it.

Also, that's not a heap. Nothing wrong with the classic Mustangs. I had a '66 once and loved it.

no Scott... it's a heap, trust me. needs flooboards, frame rails, quarters, and a trunk floor. im still not quite sure why its sitting in the driveway.

sand blast it or purple power and alot of elbow grease.

Fastc10,i see you took your back glass out. I am wanting to put a back slider in my 78 GMC,and was wondering if its easy to get the back window out,and put a slider in its place? Never done that before. Thanks.

iufan, VERY easy to do. i've done enough of them, that i can swap one in about 10 minutes.

the gasket for the rear window is H shaped. the window fits into the inside groove, and the cab fits into the outside. get inside the truck, and with a putty knife, screwdriver, butter knife, etc. start to work the cab side of the seal on the inside to the outside. do everything but the bottom, it helps to have someone to catch the window. then you should be able to pretty much pick it up off of the bottom. to reinstall, put the gasket around the window, and stuff a small rope into the body groove on the seal, with both ends meeting somewhere in the middle on the bottom of the window. push teh window up to the opening, and have a friend pull the rope out slowly, to bring the lip of the seal back into the cab where it should be.

i hope i didnt confuse you too much, but its really pretty easy.

Maybe could drive up to Elkart and you could give me a hand with it? Without my a/c working,adding a slider seems like the cheapest thing to do.

That's how i did mine but wear a good set of heavy rubber glove's.

I didn't and that purple stuff made my fingers swell up and man it hurt the swelling didn't go down for about a week.

A putty knife and wire wheel help as well.

On area's where it's thicker i soaked a rag and used some magnets to hold it on for about 15 to 30 min's. to soften the stuff up for easy removal.

One last thing you'll need to get is a very large container of industrial strength elbow grease cuz your gonna need a lot of that!

Know of any good place to get a slider for a 78 GMC thats in good shape and the latch isnt broken?

you guys mentioned "purple stuff" is that real similar to Castrol Super Clean?

as for places to buy a slider, check with any local auto accessory dealers and glass shops. JC Whitney used to sell them too, at pretty fair prices.

I don't know where chevrolet got this black goo from but befor i got the purple stuff i tried.

Gas----> i dont recomend ever using gas for this type of thing and i know better but i only used a small amount just to see if it would cut this stuff and it didn't.

And im shure there's a few thing's i tryed and forgot

There's some stuff called X-100 and i didn't try this stuff but i have used it for other task and it's close to purple stuff so i may work.

You can get both from wal-mart or just about any auto parts store

unfortunately Mike, it does have some rust. i got lucky, and the cab from my uncle's old '79 K20 had the proper parts that i needed to fix it. now its just a matter of finding someone to do the work.

the first pic is the passenger side, which i assumed was the worst. the holes in it are mostly outside the windshield seal.

and here's the drivers side. the damage to this side was completely hidden behind the seal, so i had no idea it was there until i pulled the windshield out.
