diesel question about an '87 Burb
I am interested in this 87 Burb that has the 6.2 liter diesel engine, the guy selling it say there maybe either a blown head gasket or a problem in the heads.
The owner of the Burb is out of town, my question is. if the engine blew a gasket or has some head trouble does this mean I should not fix it because I would be better off replacing the engine? I know the compression ratio in a diesel is crazy high compared to a gas engine so that is why I am thinking there could be some big time damage. I want to keep the Burb a diesel. Thanks ahead of time for any help. |

Re: diesel question about an '87 Burb
I have seen running 6.2s go for $200-500. You'll have that much in parts and labor to replace the head gaskets. If it were me I would just swap motors. Much easier.

Re: diesel question about an '87 Burb
A good diesel shop will charge around $1000 for a head gasket job on a 6.2. Pay $1100 + shipping for a crate fully dressed 6.2.

Re: diesel question about an '87 Burb
i just put one of the cucv take outs in my truck and it cost me $300 with 22k miles on it.
if you do the head gaskets yourself the gasket set is around $100 but do yourself a favor and install head studs and that will probally be the last time you have any trouble out of those head gaskets. |
