help with diagnosing a knock in my engine

I have a 1984 Chevrolet 1/2 ton c 10 with a 250cu straight six. This is an amazing find i got it for only a $100 and for the shape its crazy i have only read about these finds but the only thing i noticed wrong with it is it has a knock in the engine. It sounds like it is coming from deep like almost the bottom of the block. I thought it might be a wrist pin and i tried pulling spark plugs caps on each cylinder at a time and that had no effect on the knock. Any suggestions? or maybe it is a wrist pin and isn't the piston still moving so maybe the knock would continue? makes sense i guess i am still learning so any advice would be great

Re: help with diagnosing a knock in my engine

as far as it being a flexplate i forgot to mention (manual, 3 speed on column) i just recently replaced the entire clutch assembly flywheel included i figured since i was taking the transmission down i might as well check everything else out and replace it. but i am going to pull the motor and have it completely rebuilt at a performance shop locally so i can wait till then to find out what it is exactly and if it is just a piston slap which i got more information from some of the shops and they all agree its probably that then im good to drive it till i pull the motor i assume. Can not wait till the truck is finished i have a lot of plans for it i will try and get some pics on this thread soon of then and now
