Front wheel center bore too big issue...what to do?

Ive searched for a thread I have read but I cant find it. As we all know the front drums on all these 6 lug trucks require such a large "center bore" on the rims we are limited on the wheels we can run. Im not interested at this time in doing a major running gear conversion but I have seen threads on milling the wheels OR changing the front brake drums and bearings over to those from a 6 lug car or van. I have read the thread but I cant find it.

I really want to run some 17, 18, or 20's in a 6 lug Torq Thrust style rim.

Thread links, ideas or help would be appreciated.

It has been my understanding that most if not all aftermarket wheels had a center bore large enough to fit the hubs on these older trucks. I could be wrong though on some of the newer larger diameter wheels. I'm not aware of any hubs and drums that can be swapped onto the '63-'70 spindles that will have a smaller hub register.

You are correct....there are 1000's of wheels made for our 6 lug trucks....unfortunatley, there are several STYLES of wheels that look VERY good that do not come in a center bore large enough to go on them. The 6 lug torq thrust style wheels offered by many companies is one of them. Go to any wheel site and find the center bore size for our trucks...I think its 4.25 and then look at all the 6 lug wheels that are 3.50, 3.75 and so on. There are a lot of threads on this site about miling them down. Summit, Coys, American Racing. I assure you there is also a thread on this site somewhere about swapping drums to car or van drums for a smaller center bore. I read it about a year ago. They may have been Pontiacdrums and bearings...I just cant remember. Hopefully some one will be able to find it.

you can always have them machined to fit. the hubs on my trailer are a little to big for the set of rallye wheels that I have , so I am just going to chuck them up and machine the hubs down a bit to fit

Most wheel manufactures make there wheels with the bigger hub hole and use "hub centrict"rings that allow the wheels to fit the newer smaller hole hub this saves them money and invantory.
The catch comes when the wheels are made for specifc applications. Newer 6 lug Chevy/ GMC use the smallar hub bore and require a medium off set wheel of up to +20MM,ours take a standard or zero off set or a reversed (deep dish) off set in some cases.
