How much do you have invested in your truck???
I'm just curious how much you have invested into your truck to pretty much get it back to factory/custom/daily driver condition? I'm just looking for a ball park range from a variety of people/trucks. Pic's would be great and some general stats maybe. I have an 87 c20 that the body is in pretty bad shape. I want to get it to pretty much factory shape but with a mild customed look. I know it needs cab corners, rocker panels, drivers floor, new interior, and still some minor engine work. I can do limited body work myself but do not have the ability to cut and re-weld the body parts. Other then that I plan to do all of it myself or with the help of mechanic friends. Thanks for your input.
Here's my blank canvas.......

Re: How much do you have invested in your truck???
Well it really depends on what u r going to do to it- exterior only. Interior? Engine? Suspension?
If u do the work yourself, u will save a fortune. Parts r easily available but u can easily spend over $5 grand in parts on fenders, cab corners, paint, rockers, complete interior, etc. I dont want to tell u how much $$$$ I spent on restoring my dad's original 1984 GMC Sierra 3500 but it was ALOT. It's really a hobby and passion so if money is a problem then dont restore it because once u start it's difficult to stop & minor parts/issues always come up. U need to show more pics of interior/body/engine. But figure if u r going to have body shop weld and paint and purchase all body parts- cab corners, rockers, floor, dashboard, seat, door panels, weatherstrip, trim, engine parts, etc. Plan a minimum of $10 grand and up. U always forget something and u have to pay for shipping/freight. It's a labor of love!!! Last edited by 2badgn; 01-30-2011 at 09:41 PM. |

Re: How much do you have invested in your truck???
I have about $8k into mine including the price of the truck. It looks OK to me, but it needs some body work and a re-paint.

Well dont have any pics at work but after complete front end rebuild, new 350$2000 , 700R4 being installed this week $1200, paint job that was done half a$$ $1400 (will be done again $2500) and interior is in progress will have about $7500. The sad thing is I will never be happy with it!

Re: How much do you have invested in your truck???
I easily have 5 into mine also, and still needs almost 8k more to get it where i want it. They way i see it if you save a little at a time till you can afford your next upgrade it doesnt hurt the wallet as bad. My next few expensive upgrades are going to take a good amount of saving. But its all worth it, and i need to start back up on my 54 cadillac soon.

Re: How much do you have invested in your truck???
I have about 3 grand on it now and probably another 5 grand to go. I want to get it back to the way it was when I first got it. I am doing this for the love I have for it cause it has been with the family since I was 16 and I am 34 now. Maybe in a few years i will go full resto but right now I just want to drive it again.

Re: How much do you have invested in your truck???
lol for the dollar amount, WHO CARES!!!! I actually don't even want to think about adding it up. The real expensive part is the couple pints of blood, all the skin off my knuckles, and a gallon or so of tears..... lol and it is all going to get redone this sping...

Re: How much do you have invested in your truck???
Can always look at it this way if it helps, no matter what it costs you to redo the truck top to bottom inside and out....will still be less than buying a new truck, especially if you have some skills to do some work yourself....or some friends to help you.....Just my 2 cents

I personally not counting my labor i got about 23,000 into it And i am not done yet.I didn`t want to buy a truck n then build it to the way i want.I bought a frame and a cab and took parts from our old truck n built a brand new truck from the ground up.

Re: How much do you have invested in your truck???
Somewhere around $8k to $10k. Drivetrain alone is $5k!! Three 700R4s is not cheap! I'm only counting the last 700R4. This last build will take all the abuse I put on it.

Re: How much do you have invested in your truck???
About 15k when all was said and done... I'm lazy and never completed the hardlines for the AC and it now needs some passenger side body work after a 4wd incident. Plans after that include saving for a 6.0... I love the 350 and 700r, but by the time I save that much, it'll be due for a new motor.

So far.... About 7gs including the price of the truck. I did all of my own work except for the paint and the wheels I traded a friend of mine for some work at his house
