That's why I decided to restore my dad's original 1984 GMC. I's a tough 1 ton and it's a real truck without the unnecessary comforts of a car.

And i couldn't afford $40k + for a new truck that probably could not haul as much.

2badgn....Mine is pretty much in the shape your was(maybe worse). The interior is totally shot. I'm looking to make it almost a clone of yours(color included as that was original).

Re: How much do you have invested in your truck???

Thanks for all the input!!!! I'm just trying to get a ball park estimate. It was my late Dad's truck so I feel it's worth it.

Agree wholeheartedly! It's to the point that I'd lose a butt load of money selling it whole or in pieces, so I'm stupid not to keep it and continue to spend money on it.....right? Right.

I have about $8500 in my dually including the truck, GM fenders and core support, six 22s/tires, motor, tranny, new adapters, SD control arms and front bags. Its still got a long way to being road worthy though

Re: How much do you have invested in your truck???

Someone asked me last week if I was interested in selling it. My response was "Where were you two years ago when I was trying to sell it for half of what I have in it and twice what it is worth?"

Re: How much do you have invested in your truck???

I agree 100%^^^^^^ with 2badgn! do it right 1 time, so you dont have to redo anything while your working on another stage. foundation, safety, drivetrain, rust, interior, paint.

something like that, unless you can do it all at once.

the headliner is from lmc....the speakers sound good if you dont have any subwoofers....if you have subwoofers i would replace them....it fits good...do loose some head room...had to trim a little around where the visors go...had to wait like a month an a half for the speaker grille's cause they didnt come wth the headliner...

Way more than my wife thinks.............

Since I plan on keeping it for a decade or two I'll get a good return on my investment.

Seriously though, I was shopping for a truck with a few features, reliable, decent looking and reasonably priced. Reality set in so I decided the money was better spent on my $300.00 beater. I ended up with a rebuilt old truck that could be driven anywhere and folks tell me it pegs the Kool meter. Guys have made me offers at car shows and such, flattering to say the least, but it's not for sale. No way I could sell "The Heap", it's too much fun to drive!

does it ever bother you to have the sound literally right in your ear vs. subs behind the seat?

Re: How much do you have invested in your truck???

Truck - $2200
Brakes - $300
Injector pump - $400
Intake - $75
Injectors - $165
Glows and relay - $100
CDR - $55
hoses - $100
Fuel lines - $15 +$30 of diesel on me and the ground
Headlights, filters, floor mats, mirror - $100
Trans kit and fluid - $100
Batteries - $300
Unique tools - $300
3 parts trucks - $1000

That's over 3 years and 25,000 miles to get it to a decent driveable condition
This year's plans:
Parts engines - $300 (looking for an uncracked block)
Pulleys - $45
Electric fans - $100
Headlight upgrade - $200
Air horns - $150
Rebuild suspension - $300
Replace rockers - $200
91 front clip - $300
improve dash lights - $25

And that's before the rebuilt 6.2!

My other truck, $800 +$100 of carb work, next is the A-833 conversion, headlamp upgrade, doors with mirrors, etc, etc.

Re: How much do you have invested in your truck???

I don't think I'm doing to bad:

$2K for the truck ... $1200.00 to ship it back from socal, carb, intake, msd - traded for it, $50.00 coil & brkt., 50 gal. almn. fuel tank - free, fuel system left over from a pro street car project that went racing ... prpbably in 4K total range right now.

Re: How much do you have invested in your truck???

I started Bruiser with a 10 to 12K max goal, all told. I know I'm under budget now, but I'm too far in to start adding it all up - truth be told, I don't care anymore. Not that I can spend all I want, but rather I just don't want to know...
