Re: Craigslist..well Nex-tech find.

Sounds like a good plan.
You have a donor truck so you could swap over all the needed crossmembers and mounts

Re: Craigslist..well Nex-tech find.

Clarification.. mine started out as a two wheel drive 3/4 ton crew cab with a long bed.. someone b4 i aquired mine (morphed) it into a one ton 4x4 but didn't do a great job. the cab was rotten & had to be taken off b4 it fell off. the tranny leaked and slipped bad.. other problems too, but had alot of potential. It's in my profile pic b4 I disassembled it. The trk I just picked up has ALOT of good shape parts on it, but I need to determine if I should put the cab & body on mine.. or put the one ton suspention & 4x4 components under that white one I just aquired... if it can be done. Never tried this b4 and looking for suggestions on wich way might be more cost efficient and less hassle..... JP

Re: Craigslist..well Nex-tech find.

I think it might depend on your definition of hassle. if you have an A-frame and a chain hoist (or soem way to hold the back of the cab) as well as a cherry picker, I would say Cab swap.

Re: Craigslist..well Nex-tech find.

The few I have done (besides Suburbans having a shop crane), I used a strap under the back of the cab held up by a chain hoist (A frame would be best, but a strudy tree would work, too), and run a chain across the fender mounting holes on the cowl, and use the cherry picker there. It's been a long time, but that what my semi- fuzzy memory recalls. I used to work at a Peterbilt/GMC dealership, and we had 2 overhead cranes that we used to remove sleepers. That makes short work of a body swap.
