Introduction
I would like to introduce myself to the forum. I have been viewing it for a while now and decided to jump in. I have to chevy trucks, my first is a 99 suburban, my baby that hauls everything dear to me. My second is a 82 shortbed that I just got back from my son who just graduted from high school. He wants something newer to haul around his dirtbike, his loss my gain. This truck is nice but needs a little help. As I mentioned it is a 82 shortbed, white power everything and A/C, it's a 114 here in Phoenix. The truck has 20-inch wheels w/ 295 in front & 305 on the rear. Now it's now down in the weeds like some of yours, I prefer to sit up and see whats going on around me. It hasa phantom grille that completely cover the headlights. But again it needs help. For one thing the 305 has no power, I was thinking about a LT1 with a overdrive tranny behind it, that should do the trick. I also love to go to the pull-a-part yardds and finding those missing pieces.
So I look forward to talking with all of you and kicking around ideas on what works and what doesn't. Tom

Tom- Welcome to the forum. Since you have been lurking in the shadows for a while you already know there is a great group of guys (and gals) on here.
It sounds like you are excited about getting started on a new project. There are a lot of options out there for adding more power to your truck. Some people prefer to get as much as they can out of the 305. I decided to jump in to the new millineium by going with an LS1 for my 82 Blazer project. Let us know what you are looking for, and we will be glad to help you out...

I'm sorry if I gave the impression that this was a truck needing alot of work. In reality I have owned the truck for three years. It first belonged to my oldest son, he went on to get a 4x4. When he owned it the mechanic who last worked on it placed the head gasket in wrong, well needless to say I had to put a new motor in it. Then a week afterward the trans bitthe dust, so rebuilt trans. So all in all it been preactically redone. When my younest had it he traded in his tires and wheels for the 20"s, had it painted and really began to work on the interior. It must have looked pretty good, it was broken into 3 times and 2 other times it was almost stolen, they took the tuck next to his at school. I guess for me this is a midlife type of project to enjoy. My biggest problem now is getting it through emission testing, the last owner must of payed someone off to get it through, that is the first hurdle that I have to deal with. The next will be the interior. I was showing my wife some of the interiors others have on the forum heree and we've gotten a few ideas. I'm not new to the car sence, I restored a 65 mustang, taking out a tired old six and dropping in a v-8. And my first real hot rod was a 67 ranchero; yes a ranchero; with a 390 bored out 60 over with a 750 double pumper on it, it had et slips for low 12vs. It was a present from my wife, she suprised me with it on our 1st anniversary, what a gal! So she ready to do some toolin with me to get it where I want it. So bring on the pics of your interiors and let me know how your swaps and or whatever are going.
I went out and took some pictures so hopefully I'll have them on the board tomorrow. tom So this is a nice little di

Smack dab in central phoenix. It failed at the 16 street & river bottom site. It failed because my son removed the original air cleaner and plugged the hoses. I have almost everything repaced and am just about ready to try again. I need to have the carb adjusted first, running wy to rich.
Where are you located? Tom

Thank you lohrtbt. I might add yours was the first truck I noticed when looking at this site, I really like it. I have a question though about car domain, is there a fee to use that site?

Another Tom from phoenix who loves the 73-87's huh? Sounds good to me!!
Are you sure you want a LT1? They are cool and all, but it would involve all the wiring and stuff. A nice 383 stroker would be a much better idea IMO

Yeah that does sound good but I really want the fuel injection, I got spoiled with my burb and the fexibility from having a computer controled ingition system. I've been speaking with those who have made the change; fuel injection; and they said if you get a good donor car you can just about get everything you need to make the swap. There is someone I work with who put fuel injection in a 69 mach 1 along with an overdrive trans, what a difference it made. So I'll kick it arounfd for awhile, like many others it's the $$$$ that determine what we do in the end.

Phoenix meet idea= real good. We should go shooting and talk about trucks
As for the desert idea, lets do it on your side since thats where the truck is. I dont know anyone with a dolly, but Ill go 50/50 on renting one from uhaul [they cost like $40 a day I belive]
