72' 5.3-4l60-np205
Okay Folks here's the deal. Bought a 72 blazer to make it a daily driver. I purchased the engine(5.3) and tranny(4l60e) last week for $1000 even. I thought it was a heck of a deal too! My issue now is tying everything togetherwhile keeping the original np205 transfer case. At this time I'm getting ready to purchase the advanced adapters shaft http://http://www.advanceadapters.com/products/pn-50-6900/
and the 4l60e kit http://www.advanceadapters.com/products/pn-50-0405e/ Please let me know if there's anything I'm missing. Also I've been advised that will need to lift the truck 3 to 4 inches to create clearance from the front differential. I have also been advised that the engine will have to moved 2 inches to the front to keep the original shifter in its place. Thanks in advance! |

I have a 350, 700R4, NP205 combo in my 72 blazer. I bought my tranny from a coworker who had it BUILT. The tranny had the output shaft you listed to make it "look" like the TH350 it was replacing. Then using the stock Th350-NP205 adapter it bolted right-up. I chose to use the factory 350 location, then bolt-on the tranny, then bolt-on the transfer case, then bolt-on the crossmember. This gave me locations to drill new holes. I then cut my tranny cover for the new shifter location. This was about 2" towards the rear; from what I read the actual measurement is 1-7/8" but I think it's always better to mock-up. So, if you wanted the shifter in the stock position I would agree that the engine would need to move forward ~2". Not sure about front diff clearance though. Something to think about.
I understand that with the 4L60e you need to have the adapter with reluctor wheel for the VSS. However, reading AA site you attached, I am unsure if this will add length to the end of the 4L60e. As a follow-up question you might want to pose to AA, will this negate the need for the new output shaft? Could save you some bucks and a rebuild. Then again, if you do need the new output shaft, you can also beef-up other components that break inside the 4L60e. |

i am doing this exact same thing and am joining this thread for the advanced adapters links since they just changed their website. I have already ordered a 2" lift, and now i am wondering if it is going to be enough to fit everything in. Where did you read that you need a 4"? thanks!

I got the information from "The Alien" on this web site. He has a great Mating a 4l60 to NP205 thread. It provided me with most of the information I have and think I will need. I was just searching for other opinions and possible solutions. Let me know if you come across something.

Doing the exact same Swap...
AA fails to tell you that you need to have the NP205-TH350 adapter and sleeve machined to fit thier 4-6 bolt adapter for the 4L60e. It is a *note in the instructions you can see on thier website for Part AA50-0405. My T/C adapter had the bearing style sleeve. Remove the bearing and have .500 removed from Trans side. Don't forget to have the chamfer re-ground on the inside of the sleeve to assist with fitting the Trans shaft in there. I hope to have this done today and I'll post pics |

I bought a LoMax kit when they still were available, but you could do the same thing with your stock 205 case. The LoMax cases were machined with all the different bolt patterns in the front of it (you can do this with your case easily). With the new bolt pattern from the 4l60 factory aluminum adapter piece you can mate the two together and it will keep the engine in the factory location. The advanced adapters piece is really long and the factory adapter is a lot shorter so the engine won't move foreward as much.
Here is a link to JB Conversions NP205 page where you can find the pieces you will need like the splined input shaft that should fit the 4l60. Also there is a pic (3rd one at the top) where you can see all the different bolt patterns in the face of the case (this is what you will need to do for the 4l60 adapter to bolt up. http://www.jbconversions.com/index2.php?pc=3 For the Vss, I machined a flat spot just above the stock speedo cable hole to have a flat surface and drilled and tapped a hole for the vss sensor. I then purchased a metal tone ring from JB Conversions and just made a spacer that fit between the tone ring and the rear output shaft yoke and torqued it all down to spec. The reason I did it this way is because I used the factory gauge cluster and wanted it all to work like the factory system did. For the shifter I just made up a simple bracket that used the trans-to-transfer case adapter bolts to make it come up through the factory shifter hole. I have a few pics in my build thread of how I did all of this, although I used a 4L80, it's still the same method really.
