New to Forum

I have been lurking around for awhile and decided to say hello. I bought a 1964 SWB stepside at a couple of weeks ago in somewhat decent condition but I decided to rebuild and started to tear it down this weekend. It has a SBC 350 and and a 350 trans. A couple of questions. I have searched the forums for the answers to these but I still need the info.

The PO hacked the trans cover up to fit, where do I find a high hump trans cover?

There are no parking brake cables from the lever to the rear. What is normally done for the parking brake when a automatic trans is being used?
66' style cable routing? Does anyone have pictures of what they did?

I also need to see how front brackets of the seat are suppose to be mounted. Right now it has a block of wood to the floor. Real safe! I dont think it is the original bench seat but I can get pictures later.

I have a bench seat if your interested and for the parking brake question, yes you will need to improvise and do the 66 style cables. ( unless you can find the 1964 tranny crossmember and all the brackets)

Nice looking truck to start with. Welcome to the forum. You can always keep an eye on eBay as well for floor humps. There are two listed right now but both would need work:

When I bought my truck it too did not have the parking brake cables hooked up. Using some shifter linkages, carb parts and other parts of minor destruction that I had in my "War Box" I made this:

Later in the build I replaced the dash with a '67 Camaro dash and removed the hand brake from the column and used a floor mount style. I reworked the linkage under the floor like this to have a spring return:



Don't know if that will help ya much, but might give you some food for thought? Good luck!

welcome - nice truck! one minor comment on park brake plan, while I imagine your goal is to restore/rig up something to work with the stock brakes, depending on your upgrade plans, I've noted that Wilwood disks have the integral drum parking brake setup that could probably be actuated by some stock-like setup or even a Lokar e-brake handle, etc (i.e. eliminate the middle linkage altogether possibly). Again, depending on your plans - 4 wheel disks may not be in the cards, but just mentioning in case you had some high $ long term plans for it. If not, then I'd copy Lakeroadster's setup in a heartbeat.

Welcome to the forum

That's a nice truck you bought. What are your plans in rebuilding it?

Lakeroadster's design as usual is a good one. Depending on just where your trans crossmember is, you could use the '66-'72 style e-brake cable setup. On my '66 Suburban, I was able to retain the original cable assembly.

Thanks Lakeroadster and jocko. Those are the pictures and info I was looking for. Rear disk brakes is not out of the question.

Slow Build -Thanks, the Avatar is some of my artwork.

Captianfab - My plans right now for the truck is to get it in as manny pieces as possible in a disorganized manner and try to put it back together. Just kidding. This is my first car build and I will taking my time. Right now is to get down to the chassis and powdercoat it. I need to decided if I am going to go with a Porterbuilt or other front cross member. It already has a later one put in. I am going for a mild drop with a little front end rake. 4.5 front 4 rear is what I have been seeing that I like.
