Front drop shocks for my 61
I searched around a while but didnt find what I was looking for.
I had a pair of std shocks from a 65 on my 61. However, they would bottom out and I had to install them upside down be cause how they mount up. I think both is what lead to their failure. Im searching for a not too expensive drop shock. Any Monroe numbers out there for this application? Thanks for your help!!

Re: Front drop shocks for my 61
Not sure if 35 bucks each is inexpensive or not, but i bought a pair of toxic drop shocks from summit racing for 70 bucks.
I went on their site and read measurements after I measured how much travel Id need. They had them in stock. They worked great on my old 63 Burb. sorry, no part number...

Re: Front drop shocks for my 61
I did find this shock which is not too bad on price. Is anyone running this shock on their truck?

Re: Front drop shocks for my 61
Nevermind on this one. Its gonna be way too long. The compressed length is 12" and extended is 18".

Re: Front drop shocks for my 61
i just went through that battle for my 62. I used monroe part #5752 it's for a 1950 Plymouth front. 8.625" compressed, extended its a little short at 12.75" but it's the shortest shock that i could find with the right mounting style..

oh, i forget to mention. i saved the top steel sleeves from the original 62 shocks b/c the new shocks only had the rubber bsuhing, but the hole was the right size for the sleeves.

Re: Front drop shocks for my 61
I just found a picture of one I think. Let me know if this is what you have. The top mounting looks different. Can you punch out that 2 bolt bracket?

Re: Front drop shocks for my 61
61, your link didnt work for me. but, i remember the picture on the screen at Advanced auto parts where i bought them, showed a goofy bracket on the top with 2 holes or slots. I was planning on just removing them but when i got the new shocks, they didnt come with them. I figured it must have been a generic picture or something. but you do need to install the steel sleeves though.
The store didnt have them in stock but i got them the next morning. I think they were somewhere around 25 bux a piece. |

Re: Front drop shocks for my 61
I think that bracket can be cut and pushed out of the bushing.

Re: Front drop shocks for my 61
If theyre like mine, they didnt actually have the brackets just the rubber bushing with the hole. but if they do come with them, i'm sure you could just cut one side and remove it,,

Re: Front drop shocks for my 61
Yea. The length is more important than the mounting.
Thanks again for the help!!
