Any bed ideas??

Picked up a 1966 C10 for 650 bucks the other day, and the bed was pretty much gone, but don't want to spend a lot of money redoing it...Any ideas??

Re: Any bed ideas??

I second the flatbed idea...except I'd go a bit nicer with it compared to just 2 sheets of ply and lag bolts.

Short or long? Fleet or step side? There are some parts in our area that you may be able to fix yous with.

Re: Any bed ideas??

If it is a longbed I know exactly what I would do......... but then again I am sick and twisted

I want to do this on a 60-66 soooooooooooooo bad. And I think it could be done on a well patina'd long bed for little money with the right used parts.

do you mean the wood is gone or the bed itself is rusted out. If the bed is bad one can find them and then you normally have to redo the wood. I looked around and found #2 yellow pine, it cost $56.00 for the wood to redo a SWB Fleetside, If the metal strips are still good cut the wood yourseld and it should look pretty good. here is what mine ended up looking like. Re: Any bed ideas??

I assumed the wood was gone, if the whole bed is gone, another should be easy enough to find in OK shape. I got a clean long bed that is straight for $50 without the tail gate.

That's what my truck had in it when I bought it. 1" thick plywood, lagged down onto the existing rotten wood.

I cut it with a dido blade, the blades are really old and you just stack them together to get the width that you want. I used Mar-ks drawings and had to run them through a table saw for depth and width but it did not take too long. I used chasis saver paint in satin black for the first 3 coats of black and will finish up soon use baehr enamel that is UV inhibited for 3 final coats. I am trying to do this truck as stock as possible but with just a little edge to make it sharper than pure stock.

Here in Tulsa, OK I went to a lumber company that supplies businesses with lumber, Economy Lumber is their name, I bought it wider than I needed and then cut it to width, length, and then cut the edge as shown in Mar-k s website......It is a little bit of work but I think it is much less expensive and the results are the same as the kits. The problem with buyings kit wood is the freight, darn freight is getting ridiculous......Kieth

home depot and lowes were much higher and the wood was of a higher grade, I got lucky and picked my lumber from a new pallet.....the owner want to redo a older 49-50 flatbed truck so he cut me a good deal.
