Re: Chalet in NorCal
That's serial #0407, long story to it, basically it was intact in December but the dealer had to scrap the Blazer since it didn't meet CA emissions. Or something like that. I tried my best to get the guy to find a way around that. I thought I had it here in this web site when it was for sale a couple of years back, but I can't find the post. The prior owner had been getting CARB notices from the state saying the best alternative was to sell it to a scrapper, which he did to get money to repair his house.
My guess is this current dealer/seller didn't do his research and paid too much for it thinking he could flip the shell-only for a profit, but by themselves, they tend not to sell for much more that $3-500. Too bad, since the truck was in good salvageable shape to the best of my knowledge.

Speaking of Casa Grandes, I found an ad for one in Sandy Ut that was from last Sept, but the seller hasn't yet responded to calls or emails: http://www.myutahautos.com/cars/1976/GMC/Jimmy/109074

Thanks for the confirmation, no worries, I know one or two other guys in that general area. What was the name of the junkyard?

Re: Chalet in NorCal
I appreciate the confirmation, I'll try giving the place a call tomorrow.
Minor possibility that the one from this old 2006 post ended up there. Last time I was in SLC, I could not spot any place right next to the west side of I-15 that looked the area in the photos. That old yard might have gotten paved over during the assorted new developments along the freeway. I don't see anything that distinguishes the one in the old post from any other '76 Chalet. Sometimes they have unique bumper stickers or the vinyl stripes are half peeled off in a noticeable way.

Re: Chalet in NorCal
Bit a delay, sorry, thought one of the local guys at another forum would drive over there. Called up the place just today, however, talked to a very helpful employee named Chris who wrote down the SN & build date and emailed that plus the one photo they have a short time ago. Also said he'd try to get more photos later. It's a GMC Jimmy Casa Grande, SN 0772, built 8/76, a bit on the rusty side like you said.... I've not yet been able to confirm the total number of both styles that were produced, so my best guess is that only 225 Casa Grandes were made.

Re: Chalet in NorCal
I wouldn't ruin a good Chalet, but a decent insert (but otherwise unrestorable) would be pretty cool in a CUCV Blazer...

Re: Chalet in NorCal
480-ish miles local enough? Last I heard, from a couple of years ago, there was one where the owner insisted on keeping the Blazer. Catlettsburg, KY, near the WVA border north of you, I still have the contact info if you need it, send me a PM. So-so shape, you remove the camper.

BUT if I find one close enough I just put it in the back yard.... I could tell her its been there for years and she just never noticed it haha.

Re: Chalet in NorCal
PM's sent & received on the one in Catlettsburg, KY.
Meanwhile, the seller of the one in Hephzibah, GA called a short time ago with the SN & VIN, and the moment he read off the VIN, I realized he has a GMC Jimmy Casa Grande. It's #1073, built in 12/76. He doesn't use the internet, so I might have to rely on someone in the area to email digi photos, or maybe the seller will snail mail regular photos... He'll probably reword his next ad for the newspaper if he re-lists it.
