A/C Vent & Underdash Ashtray
I don't want to violate the rules for auctions, so I have removed the information.
Reading some of the threads on here makes me miss my '66. Nice trucks. Last edited by weagle99; 03-18-2011 at 08:10 PM. Reason: Noob mistake |

Re: A/C Vent & Underdash Ashtray
Hate to see a perfectly good thread go to waste.
Here is a picture of an A/C vent. On to the second picture. Is this the correct ashtray for an A/C truck? If so does someone have a picture of the slide mount for it? Where exactly was it located?

Re: A/C Vent & Underdash Ashtray
This is the underdash ashtray that I have at the moment. I was thinking it was for a 64-66 but now I am wondering if it actually for an older vehicle?
Any thoughts? Thanks. |

Re: A/C Vent & Underdash Ashtray
Now that I look at it , it is definately not a 65-66 ashtray. I have 3 of them and on all of them the pull is chrome, not black plastic. You may have to search it off the literature you have or it maybe a generic ashtray from an aftermarket vendor in the 50's or 60's. Rich, do you have the reciever for your ashtray, w/o being near one of my trucks I believe it was just under the radio and there maybe holes drilled from the factory for it.

Re: A/C Vent & Underdash Ashtray
There's a member here on the site (Yelmer) that is an expert on those things. Maybe he can shed some light. I hit him up on some ashtray questions, and he was a wealth of information. The guy knows his stuff.

Re: A/C Vent & Underdash Ashtray
From what I can tell, everything about this tray is identical to the GM tray except maybe the handle. The color even looks correct for the accent color for the stock fawn interior. I am inclined to believe it is of GM manufacture, however I am still a little curious about the build date. I have searched the Internet after starting this thread and have yet to find anything that comes close to looking the same other than a 64-66 tray. Perhaps it was a dealer accessory item that could be installed later? Or, could it be 'correct' for a GMC only?

Re: A/C Vent & Underdash Ashtray
Were the under dash ash trays not shared from the passenger car line as well.

Re: A/C Vent & Underdash Ashtray
I have been told that the '64 Impala cars equipped with A/C have an underdash ashtray that is nearly identical to the Chevy trucks except the handle is different. The black plastic handle doesn't appear like an Impala style. Maybe it's a GMC truck accessory?
Whatever it is, that NOS ashtray that weagle99 has is cool! Slow Build- Did you get that ash tray out of the truck you got the A/C from? If so, you scored on that thing!!! If it's still installed, you have to go get the slider out of that truck ASAP.

Re: A/C Vent & Underdash Ashtray
Thanks to everyone for the comments. The tray is a little bit of a mystery due to the handle mainly, but it still seems to fit for the 64-66 so I will keep that description. I literally can't find a picture of this tray in any other context.
I sold my truck a couple of years ago but retained a few parts in a box during the meantime. Finally decided the other day that it was time for them to move down the road and be used by other enthusiasts. Hope everything finds good homes. |

Re: A/C Vent & Underdash Ashtray
hello this is a gm ashtray but it is from the 1950s it is the same ashtray for a 65-66 chevy truck but the handle is different. also to fit on the 65 -66 chevy truck you need the factory bracket to mount to the dash . if you get the bracket and handle it would work for a 65-66 chevy truck . they also used this ashtray in 1964 chevrolets with factory air good luck mike

So would I be correct to assume that this tray is actually for a 1953 / 54 BelAir or truck? That might match with the instruction sheet included with the ashtray, which seems to show an older dash and has '8-53' printed near the bottom. Last edited by weagle99; 03-20-2011 at 08:19 PM. |

Re: A/C Vent & Underdash Ashtray
I googled the part # on the underside of the handle.
This is what came up from the search: OBSOLETE CHEVROLET PART CHEVY - CHEVROLET HANDLE ASHTRAY - Part Number 3820916 64 B W/CAC 64-66 TRKS(FFC,VAN,G10) 1971 1972 1973 1974 So I guess it's original. As soon as it stops raining I'll try to find the mount. I looked around a little bit when I grabbed all the other stuff, but it was close to closing time.

Re: A/C Vent & Underdash Ashtray
The mystery around this tray seems to keep growing. Try as I might I can't find any examples anywhere on the net, and the P/N that appears on the instruction sheet (3698120) also seems to be a dead end...
Edited to add: Well, based on the yelmer's earlier posts and the cryptic drawing on the instruction sheet, it appears that I have an ashtray for a early 1950's model Chevrolet car. I still can't find any pictures of the thing anywhere else, but the pieces seem to fit. I know next to nothing about those old Chevy models, but it appears the tray mounted under the radio (!) and was perhaps installed as a convenience feature for the passenger. Regardless, I will be pulling it from auction until I can list it suitably. Thanks again to all of you. Last edited by weagle99; 03-20-2011 at 11:04 PM. |

Mine is much further left than the book shows. It's above the accelerator.
