gear indicator ...need quick answer

So I have my steering column apart to fix the slop that is in the wheel and will give credit to the poster for the how to link when I can get his name again but ne way I haven't had a working indator since I got the truck but as I was putting it back together I found a cable so I pulled on it and found out what is was but I have no idea what it connects to.

Any insight would be wonderful

there should be a metal clip on the end of it and it will attach to the plastic sleeve over the column behind the rubber filler.. when you move the shifter handle the lower sleeve moves, clip it to where your indicator lines up where it should as you go through Reverse neutral and so on...

simply gets routed from the indicator in the cluster, slides in a pocket, to the right of the indicator, and the clip looking deal simply gets cliped to the column's plastic shell... this shell moves when the gear lever is operated... if you look at your column, you will see that its the only plastic shell/tube... it probably has a few scratches where the original one was. play with the adjustment and your done.

Thanks! Ive been a square-body guy for years, just now got into the forum thing tho. Ive read alot of interesting stuff here, and seen some cool pics..

For it to be most accurate put the transmission into the middle most gear and line up the clip (aka the indicator) to that gear. That way when you slide it around it will cover the gear that you are in and not be 1 over - if that makes sense.

thanks to all of u if i wouldve known that was what was wrong with it i would have fixed it a long time ago probably the easiest fix to date
