Top window removal

What do you need to remove the window from a Blazer top? How difficult is it to do and how difficult to reinstall? Do you have to replace the window gaskets when this is done? Mine seem to be in great shape. Any help, info or pics would be great. BTW its a single wall top in case it matters.

Re: Top window removal

It's actually pretty easy, unless the rubber has gotten brittle. To remove the window, it's best to work with a helper on the outside. Use a hook tool or a cotter-pin tool (something with a hook on the end) and press on one of the top corners of the glass as you work the rubber loose. Continue all the way around until you get to where you can just pull the glass and rubber out.

Installation is pretty simple, too. You can use a piece of 3/16 flat-braided nylon rope to make it easy. Put the rubber on the glass and then put the rope in the body channel in the rubber, overlapping it on the bottom. Have your helper put steady pressure on the glass as you slowly pull the rope out of the rubber channel. As you do, the rubber should come over the lip on the fiberglass top. You might need to help occasionally with the hook tool. Once the rubber is over the lip all the way around, a few smart slaps on the glass with your open hand should seat it. You can use glass cleaner on the rubber to lubricate it so it slides over the fiberglass lip easier.

As far as replacing the rubber, you only have to do that if it's too damaged to reuse. If the rubber is in good shape and you're careful taking it out, there should be no problem.

Re: Top window removal

I'm happy to help a fellow board member. I've gotten a lot of good advice here myself.
