ECM Reprogramming

Hey I was looking into putting a 5.3 into my 71 Blazer. Right now I am just trying to get price estimates and was wondering what is the typical price to have your ECM flashed/reprogrammed?
Thanks, Cody

Re: ECM Reprogramming

Shon on here can do it. I had Black Bear Performance do mine, Are you looking for a full tune or just have VATS turned off so it will run?

Moving this to LSx swaps.

Ok great thanks for the infor guys. When I do finally get around to getting the 5.3, I am hoping to just get the ECM programmed to run in my rig.

Re: ECM Reprogramming

If you have a just stock motor, then Jesse would be fine, he only removes stuff and sets tire size and RE gears, no performance anything. If your going to throw a cam at the 5.3 then definately get a performance tune, youll be glad you did.

Also I dyno tune would be best if your going all out on the motor.

Re: ECM Reprogramming

I have had Jesse tune a wicked LS1 that I built a few years ago. It had a T-Rex cam, all sensors turned off, fan temp, etc. Worked out really good. A buddy used him as well for a very similiar build without any issues. The key is to tell him EVERYTHING that you need done, as you would any other tuner.

Re: ECM Reprogramming

I charge $165 shipped for 'stockish' tunes. U send me the PCM and I send it back ready to go.

Re: ECM Reprogramming

Would it be possible for me to buy the engine and ecm separately? Or would I be able to buy an aftermarket wiring harness specific to my 71 Blazer? I am new to all of this information and really appreciate all of your inputs

U can buy it all seperate, just have to know what all you got so the person/company doing the work knows the whole set up.
And I am not aware of a specific 71 Blazer harness, most of them are generic but work in many vehicles. As easy as it is, why pay the Painless (LOL) prices? get a good harness and do it yourself or send it off or just leave it as is.....you do remove some wiring you dont need but its alot of work.

So it would be easier to buy a wiring harness that is specific to the 5.3 engine?

Re: ECM Reprogramming

There is not a specific 5.3 harness. the truck harness's from the factory are all the same, and so are the other ones you buy.
only real differences are in the PCM. but you dont need a 5.3 specific PCM....

Re: ECM Reprogramming

www.speartech.com is another option for harness mods and tuning. John did my 01 6.0 in 72 GMC truck with performance tune.
