'79 Jimmy 2wd project build
I picked this up a little over a month ago and as you can see I definitely have a lot of work to do, but at least its only a two strike project instead of three like most I find this one does run and move itself around. I have started disassembling a few things, first off someone put an '84 front clip on it and I like round eyes better so I am changing it back. This project will be slow going but I will update it as progress is made.

Re: '79 Blazer 2wd
Thanks for the kind words. I picked up a '77 front clip this week, I finally managed to find one that the bottom of the front fenders wasnt totally rotten. Right now I am debating on wheather or not I want to take the body off the chassis. Its in decent shape but I would like to clean it up and coat the chassis with POR15. I'd really like to strip it and have it powdercoated but thats out of my budget.
One question, the vin tag is supposed to be on the drivers door post but I cant find it. Where exactly is it located? Jeff |

Re: '79 Blazer 2wd
Lots of 2wd activity the last few days. It will look great with the 77 front.

Re: '79 Blazer 2wd
Nice score! My 2wd Blazer is a 79 and also has the medium blue interior. I have an Army Blazer that I have been doing interior work on recently - practicing on the one that doesn't matter so much. The SEM interior paints work EXTREMELY well, can't wait to use some on my 79.
Good luck with it, and keep the updates coming! |

Re: '79 Blazer 2wd
nice Blazer I half considered making mine a 2wd but eventually decided to keep it 4wd. If you do not see the VIN hole in the dash pad the 73-78 dash pads do fit so someone may have covered it with the pad

Re: '79 Blazer 2wd
using my 89 burb dash in my 78 leaves the" dash vin "appear to be empty or "gone" at first glance

Re: '79 Blazer 2wd
Thanks for all the help. It may be under the dash but I'm pretty sure the dash is original and its nowhere on the post.
On a sad note I am going to have to shelve this project for a while. We got some potentially bad news at work but it will be a while before we find out anything one way or the other. At least that gives me enough warning to start putting back extra money. Not selling the blazer, just putting it on the backburner for now. Jeff |

MAN i would love to have this..... I like it and I hope things work out at your job. The vin on my 79 lwb and 79c30 is on the dash. ALTHOUGH its completly covered up by the cover in my c30.

Re: '79 Blazer 2wd
Sucks Man,I feel your pain....I had to idle my Jimmy project when work got iffy. Work is better now,But now I don't have any free time and I still don't feel good about throwing a ton of money (if any really) in it. My goal right now is just to get running and driving so I can get it out of my shop.
Good luck your with Blazer it looks like a good start....

Re: '79 Blazer 2wd
I finally found the VIN tag, its on the dash under the pad. It may have had an older pad put in it as there is no hole in the pad for the VIN.

Re: '79 Blazer 2wd
I have a question on lowering this thing. I want to use a Belltech 4/6 drop kit, do I need to use a c-notch on the frame rails? I noticed that Belltech does not include it with the kit and cant seem to find a c-notch for the Blazer.

Re: '79 Blazer 2wd
I don't think any of the truck notches will fit perfectly. The curve of the k5 frame is different. You won't be able to get all of the bolt holes drilled. Be prepared to weld in some reinforcement.

Re: '79 Blazer 2wd
The best way is to use a 6" pip and cut it in half and weld it in. Here is one I did on my S10..

Re: '79 Blazer 2wd
Thanks guys. Travis, I had one truck done like that that there was no bolt in notch available for so I will probably go that route with this one too. that is one sharp blazer you got, hope mine turns out that good. There's so many super rides on this site that it's easy to find inspiration.

Re: '79 Blazer 2wd
So I decoded the vin on the truck and found I actually have a Jimmy not a Blazer.
Things have been looking better at work so I have started working on it a little. What I have done so far is to disassemble the tailgate and strip the paint off it. While stripping the paint I found this under the blue paint. I believe the black is primer and it only had one layer of blue so I am thinking it may be the original tailgate. What can you guys tell me about the trailering special option and is there any way to tell for sure if this Jimmy has it without the RPO codes as the original glove box door has been replaced so no codes. Re: '79 Blazer 2wd
I am ready to do the needed welding on the tailgate and have a question, on the top outside of the gate mine has split on both ends and I am going to weld it back up but dont know if it is supposed to be flat all the way across. If anyone could post pics of this area on a finished blazer or Jimmy that would be great.
