Re: wiring a trailer plug????
Get a trailer wire setup that plugs into the rear lighting harness. Would be a lot easier than splicing into the wires. From there it is pretty easy to wire up any type of plug. You can get them from Walmart sometimes or a trailer dealer would be sure to have them for under $20.

Re: wiring a trailer plug????
Agreed, if you can find a 'plug-and-play' that uses the original harness, it's SOOO much easier. I got mine from Walmart years ago. You may need to look kind of deep to find the correct one for trucks this age, but you should be able to come up with one, and like said, should be under $20.
Otherwise, you can buy a 'generic' fit one that will have the 4 wires, and you will need to tap into your brake and turn signal wiring on your truck, which should be fairly easy as well, but will require you to protect that connection point from dirt/water to help avoid problems.
