Has anyone tried a Holly Off Road Avenger Carbs? Likes and Dislikes? Pros/Cons?

Not the truck avenger, but I've been using their street avengers for a couple of years now. I have one on my '71 and now one on my burb. I like them myself. Not a huge difference from a normal Holley, just a few upgrades included with them that the regular carbs don't have. Since my burb is 4x4 I am thinking of putTing the notched floats and jet extensions in it. But still on the fence about TBI'ing it anyway.

I've done a lot of research on them and took the plunge. I don't have my truck on the road ( or off the road ) yet, but i've heard nothing but good about them. Mine's a 670cfm on an '87 383 stroker in a 68 short bed. They're supposed to be able to take a pretty steep angle and side angle without flooding. I wish I could tell you more, but I'm about a year out from completing my project. I thought about TBI, but I don't want any computers

I have always heard Qjets work pretty good off road but as far as Holleys go they are probably your best bet.

I ran the 670 on my stroker BB for a bit and was pleasantly surprised with it. I tuned it with a four gas analyzer. From out of the box it only needed fattening up on the secondaries 2 jet sizes to feed up to 6,000rpm. It had great off idle performance with 15inches of vacuum and and did not stumble out on wash board or off camber situations but got terrible mileage compared to other carbs I have ran on this motor. A qjet could be tuned to do the same for a lot cheaper and better economy. But for someone who had a bit more money than time or tuning knowledge this carb seems to be a good bolt on product for the off road performance enthusiast. -steve

I have the 670 and as the others said, it drinks fuel, but outta the box bolted on it ran pretty decent. I was impressed.

Installed today. First impressions are on the up side. Very nice overall out of the box performance over the Edelbrock 1406 and Rochester. Really smoothed out the new Jasper Class 1 RV motor. Hope to get it on the highway and off road a little tomorrow to see what its really like.
