mounting 54-66 fenders on a 67+ stepside bed

Hi;

The previous owner mounted a 67 (and later) short stepside bed in good condition (except for the fenders) on my 61.

I just snagged a decent set of 54-66 fenders, and was wondering if mounting these 54-66 fenders on the bed that I already have is a waste of time. Other than making new bolt holes and welding up the old ones, is there anything else that I need to look out for?

I guess I will just buy the steps new....
