Speedometer question

Ok I have been trying to research this but I am getting more confused.
I put a 350 TPI and 700r4 from a 87 corvette into my 66c10 lwb. Everything is running great but my question and problem is the speedometer. I want to keep my original speedometer which is mechanical and uses a cable but the 700r4 uses electronic speed sensor which I need for the computer. What wanting to find out is there a way to do both? I found this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33727
I need to get this fixed so I won't get another speeding ticket.

Re: Speedometer question

I think that is for the speedo head, you need something that picks up the pulse from the trans and hooks to the cable I THINK. You also may be able to change the tailshaft to a speed cable drive tail.

Re: Speedometer question

if you want to keep a mechanical you have to change a gear or something in the transmission.

on the other note if you want an electric speedometer you would need that part

Re: Speedometer question

Zane,

Here is what I use.

http://www.abbott-tach.com/Cable%20X.html

Works good, but pricey. It takes the speed signal and converts it to cable rotation. You can calibrate your speedo to be correct with this unit as well.

Re: Speedometer question

I went down to the local transmission shop and they sold me a mechanical speedometer setup for $30. I just pulled out the electronic setup, installed a mechanical housing, drive gear on the output shaft, and driven gear in the housing that was appropriate for my tire size and rear end ratio.

This website has some pictures of how the setup works and how to install it.
